Meeting Notice — October 22, 2011

If you are familiar with the interactive meeting notice skip down to “Topics“.

This is an interactive meeting notice.

What, you may ask, is an interactive meeting notice?

As the phrase suggests, it is a meeting notice what requires interaction by the readers. For example: we need to have topics for presentation at the meeting; we need presenters; we need volunteers to provide lunch; we need to know who is coming to the meeting so the quantity of lunch portions may be determined, and so on.

This post will be updated as interactions (comments) are appended.

  1. This is great news! Fond memories of the fine lunch and excellent meeting we had last time at John’s are still fresh in the minds of those who attended. Hopefully there will be less excitement raising the 160 meter antenna.

  2. Club members,
You all will have to get along without input from me on this one. I will be enroute to KH6 while you all are erecting the world famous 160-m vertical @ W1XX, and enjoying his expertise at the grill. Enjoy! I’ll be back in town in late November, just in time for the CQ WW CW weekend. I may be looking for a station to play at that weekend (If W1DX is unavailable. More to follow.

    73, Mike, K1DM

  3. I plan on attending…look forward to seeing the infamous W1XX 160m ant. go vertical once again!

Hope to have my own antenna/tower raising party very very soon…5-band Broadband Hexagonal Beam at 35′ on free-standing aluminum tower.

    73, Bill W1WBB

  4. Directions to W1XX QTH: From Rte 1 traveling SOUTH — go past Wakefield exits…past East Matunuck, Matunuck, Moonstone Beach and ALL Perryville exits. Look for green sign: “Shannock Road next right.” RIGHT turn onto Shannock Road. 3rd driveway on LEFT…# 48 on mailbox. Driveway will be blocked at top of hill by vertical antenna on the ground, so park at the bottom of the hill either across from the driveway or turn around and a couple of cars can park near the mailbox. Then get your ticket punched and board the W1XX TRAM for the journey to the top of the hill….enjoy the foliage as you travel up and note the owl in the tree on your left. Disembark when you see the antenna tower.

From Rte 1 traveling NORTH — go 7.9 miles past “Entering Charlestown” sign and continue past “Entering South Kingstown.” [W1XX tower visible to your left on horizon] Go past Green Hill Beach Road exit. Get in LEFT lane and make a U-turn to Rte 1 south @ “Post Road Perryville” sign and stay on Rte 1 south for almost a mile. Look for green sign “Shannock Road next right.” Then continue with ABOVE directions.

If you can arrive a little before meeting time, perhaps 10:30 AM for raising vertical that would be nice. Bring a hard hat. Simple vertical dipole (described at previous CTRI meeting) will be set up for on-the-air LP demonstartion (Note T32C used vertical dipoles).

    TNX & 73!!

  5. I’m looking forward to it. After year of workig on the mechanical engineering aspects of the antenna, I have no doubt that the rasing will be a success!

  6. I am planning on attending. Will get there in time to help with the antenna raising if Portsmouth Express members can agree on a departure time. :-))

  7. I will be attending.
How about a short description of the 160 antenna so I can know where I can help.

  10. Hi guys, It looks like I will be unable to enjoy this Saturday’s activities. Some family obligations will require my presence out of state for a few days. However, I hope to be back and have all ready for the upcoming CQ WW Phone contest the next weekend. I hope all goes well with the 160M vertical work project.

    73,
    John, W1AN

  11. I will make a considered effort to attend. I always like raising antenni and need tips/ideas for a 160 for myself. Also, I need some significant guidance on setting up my station. I’m trying to integrate my FT1000D with Win7 ‘puter with N1MM with MMTTY via RIGblaster pro. Something is just not right. Jim / K1SD

  12. Jim,

What kind of issues are you having? I might be able to help. I am using a RIGblaster Pro with an FT-2000 and WinXP but much is the same. I haven’t used N1MM at home yet but could probably hook it up to see how it works with my config.

Does your computer have serial ports or are you using USB to serial converter(s)?

    73,
    Pat, NG1G

  13. I just spoke with Carlos, WP4U and mentioned the possibility of some of us going down there for WPX RTTY. Carlos is up for it. Perhaps we could have a short discussion on who might be willing to go?

    73,
    Pat, NG1G

  14. Jim,

I never did get to speak with you about this issue at the meeting, sorry. Too much going on! If you’d like, send me a quick email on what’s going on with it. I’ll get N1MM talking to my rig and see how I can help.
