We’re Workin’ On It…

There is a problem with the web site creating multiple copies of new postings. The source has been narrowed down to the “CREATE A POST” item in the menu bar.

Until we get this fixed, if you want to create a new posting, please look at the TOP menu bar above the CTRI logo and move the mouse over the  “+ New” item and select “Post.”

Using this template seems to work without the problem of multiple postings. I have deleted most, if not all, of the multiple postings and test postings.

2013 CQ WPX RTTY at NP3U

I originally posted this in late 2011 and thought it would be good to repost it to let everyone know what we are going after down there next month. I just rechecked and the records below are still standing.

Looking Towards New World Record for CQ WPX RTTY

There has been recent discussions about a crew from CTRI heading to Puerto Rico in February 2013 to make a run for the World Record in the WPX RTTY contest. This should be near the peak of the sunspot cycle and will be a great opportunity run up a BIG score at Carlos’ station.

I just did a little research to identify exactly what the records are at the present time. This posting is to put that information in plain view. You should particularly note that the North American record and the United States record are held by pretty familiar callsigns….

Category Record Holder Year Score WPX

WORLD - Multi-2 EA8AH 2007 17,001,420 895
North America - M2 NP3U 2008 14,053,680 894
United States - M2 NG1G (W1AN) 2011 7,862,238 873

A crew from CTRI also went south to NP3U in Februray 2009 for this contest. However, the gods weren’t with us on this trip. Equipment problems and antenna problems caused us to be Multi-Single for about 25% of the contest time. The score from that effort for NP3U (9.895,184) was still enough to win First Place Honors, Multi-2, in both the World and North America.

CQ WPX RTTY in CT

John, W1AN, has graciously offered the use of his shack for an effort during the WPX RTTY next month. The idea is to make an attempt at an M2 NA win while the team at NP3U makes an attempt at an M2 world win. I don’t think I have to explain how good that would look for our club when that issue of CQ Magazine comes out! We had two pictures in this year’s results article, maybe two wins would get us four!

An NA win requires a serious effort, with both radios continuously manned throughout the contest. It is one in which we have successfully engaged before, most notably in the last two years. I’m looking for ops who can commit to trying to make this happen. How much time each op would be needed to fill a chair will depend on how many ops commit.

Who is seriously interested in doing this? I’d say we need a minimum of 4 ops to do it right, and so far Ed, W1PN and I are willing.

NP3U (Jan 12th 2013)

InsolatorTalked to Carlos on the phone this afternoon. I got some answers to some of our questions.

Internet: Same as we used last time: However WP4Z has and internet company with a tower with a bunch of anteenas on it that we can access via a 2m link. I guess he (WP4Z) uses it that way for his station. Carlos will talk to him. Lets plan on bringing the gear down to set it up.

Anteena update: They did get the beams up but found the rotors did not work so he has ordered two new ones and they (Carlos & his friends) will have them installed.

Would Like: Cables for the ICE filters  that connect to the radios to make them swicth freq together?

A center insolator for the 80M Delta loop you can take a look at what he means at http://www.alphadeltacom.com/pg11.html Maybe someone has something like this in thier junk box.

I asked him again to send a list of wants and needs via email.

I was going to have a meeting of the group that is going next weekend but we’ll have to put it off until the weekend of the 26 or 27th if you think that will work. If not I can cancel what I need to do next weekend.

2013 ARRL RTTY RoundUp Results redux

This is re-post of this item to collect RTTY RU results which disappeared with the necessary roll back of the web site.  Please post your results here.

I already have the results from W1CTN, but I had not transferred anybody elses results to the leaderboard spreadsheet before the rollback.

Sorry you have to repost the results…

System Backup Restored.

This evening the website was rolled back to its status on January 6. If you have created a Post, entered a Comment, or entered information in the Forum since then, it has been lost and will need to be reentered.

I know of at least one instance where this is true: one or more of you indicated you would be attending the meeting but your comment was lost. Please check http://ctri.club/2013/01/01/meeting-notice-january-2013/ and reenter your RSVP if it is not there any longer.

ARRL RTTY Round-Up this weekend @ W1AN

CTRI CG;

John and I got a good start this morning on getting things straightened up for the contest.  I am planning on arriving tomorrow around 11:00 to 11:30 so we can finish up a few things I didn’t get done.  John said an hour to hour and a half before start time (1300 EST) would be good.  I have a case of bottled water here that I will put in the van in the morning (it will freeze overnight) so we will have that.  Anything else you would like for snacks is fine.  There is no need to bring equipment, unless you want to bring headphones.  I usually take a pair with me.  Otherwise, we have 3 K3’s at Johns right now, at least 3 RTTY Meisters, and antennas for two stations.  You will be welcome to spend as much time operating as you like.  I can’t commit to the entire weekend, or overnight, but I will put time in both days.

If anyone else in the club would like to participate, please stop by.  We are planning on running one station for the contest, so the second station will be available for anyone who wants to join the fun.  I’d request you send an e-mail to John, W1AN, if you plan on dropping in.  That’s just so we can keep track.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.  Work whichever club members you hear.  We need the points and the practice.

Meeting Notice, January 12, 2013

It’s that time again. If you are familiar with the interactive meeting notice skip down to “Topics“. This is an interactive meeting notice. What, you may ask, is an interactive meeting notice? As the phrase suggests, it is a meeting notice which requires interaction by the readers. For example: we need to have topics for presentation at the meeting; we need presenters; we need volunteers to provide lunch; we need to know who is coming to the meeting so the quantity of lunch portions may be determined, and so on. This post will be updated as interactions (comments) are appended. Topics
