Nice conditions the first night kept me on 160M for way too long. I wanted to see how many DX countries I could work there. My hope for an early sunrise JA to pop through didn’t happen. Many 100W EU stations were S9 for several hours the first night with very little 160M activity on the second. All the other bands cooperated a good part of each day. Even 10M opened to JA and the pacific. I operated mostly S&P. I just couldn’t get any real runs going while watching the available multipliers lists filling up fast!

  2. I’m done. I could stick it out but school work is calling me, and anyway I’m satisfied with my part-time effort. Search and pounce all the way. N1MM says I had 19:06 BIC time. The bands were noisy and the SFI was low but all in all the conditions weren’t too bad. 10M was not too good for me yesterday but I made a comeback there today. As I write this there are still quite a few mults and Qs to be had, so by ending early I’m probably losing at least a hundred thousand points. It’s just a contest.

I fixed my inverted vee on Thursday because that was the first chance I had to do it. Turns out it had failed where I spliced into the ladder line when my balun crapped out on me. This time I added strain relief and despite the wind today it’s holding strong.

By the way, I uploaded my contest QSOs to LoTW and the file was processed within 2 minutes!

Forgot to mention (again): I was Single-Op, Assisted, Low Power. I hope Jim, KS1J didn’t play too much in this. 🙂

My contesting enthusiam was definitely reduced for this contest. Maybe my brain was still ringing with the diddles and deedles from the prior weekend. Virtually all Qs were from S&P. However on late Saturday morning, my rate meter regularly showed over 100. At one time I had run out of spots to click on both 20 and 15. Not nearly as good of score as last year, but it all counts.

  4. Well, that was interesting. It took me most of the day Saturday to set up the station to work CW. Maybe I’ll put more of an effort in CW down the road. Who knows, maybe I’ll get a cert for this. I got one last week for getting first place in the Jan, 2012 ARRL VHF contest with only 378 points. Apparently I was the only one in RI working assisted in that contest.

    Comments:

I think this is the first CW contest I have participated in since I used to do
the “Novice Roundup” (I think that’s what it was called) when I was first
licensed in the mid 80’s. The CW is a lot faster today than I remember it back
    then.

Commnets: We had guests this weekend so a limited one-band effort. Mostly running and the 100-watt EU stations were workable. 9V1YC was loud near SR on Sunday but could not crack the pilerup. JA3YBK simply can’t hear! Heard some other JAs but none made it into the log. Best stations to call in were the A61 and the 3D2. Spent hours in the woods both days in deep snow soldering splices to the beverages. Great fun! Will re-configure the vertical antenna from 80 to 160 for next weekend’s CQWW 160 SSB Test. CU then and at the club meeting. 73! — John, W1XX

  6. Hi Guys,

Congrats on a good showing from Carlos’ and then again this weekend. I heard NG1G and W1CTN quite a bit. I was going to do a single band 10 but decided on Friday that 10 was not going to pan out. Still waiting for some real sunspots.
