SSCW has long been probably my favorite contest, however, I am just not able to keep the butt in chair for the time necessary to generate a really good score. It was fun to again work my old friend K3KU who was my neighbor in MDC years ago. This year I again missed a clean sweep by one section after having 82 sections in the log relatively early. The NT station was only readable here for a short period of time when the pileup was totally blocking his transmissions. I was hoping that he or perhaps another NT station might answer while I was CQing but that didn’t happen. Conditions actually seemed better than I expected after all the dire warnings about the CME and solar wind. Only other club member I heard/worked was W1XX but worked 2 other RI stations in the fray… KA1RI and K1MD.
Here are my results…

Summary:
Just dabbled for a couple of hours. Unlike Ken, this usually isn’t on my favorite list but I actually had a lot of fun. So next year, I may try to spend some more time. Unfortunately, this time I was limited by a very long list of things to do and increasingly short daylight time to do them.

Missed KL7 and NT. Never even heard ’em. Beamed 325 deg. Sunday PM expecting KL7RA or somebody to call in.
Condx better on Sunday than Saturday…but gets pretty slow Sunday PM after working just about everybody. Gave up the final 1/2 hour of eligibility in favor of pizza. We gotta get more CTRI’ers on for this grand daddy contest. SSB in two weeks. Didja notice all the checks (CK) in the 50s?….the old geezers. Aside to K3IU: KA1RI will show up as a “unique” but good. 73! — John, W1XX
I only made the last 3 hrs after being away with family most of the weekend. Guess that’s why I missed ya’ll. K1MD?? provided my only RI QSO (329A 65 RI near 00Z). K1VSJ in Prov had 310 Q’s, so well over 2200 contacts at least from L’il Rhody this year including all ours from CTRI. 73, Bill

Away most of weekend…operated last 3 hours. Was in “Run” mode much of the time with my “low #”. Couldn’t generate much interest on 40m…usually a good band for me. Fun to do SSCW if even for only a little while!
