Conditions were disappointing. The band was a little noisy and signals were down quite a bit from the CW contest a week ago. This required many repeats for fills. Goal was to equal last years score. Barely made it. Good to see the club activity.

Comments:
Conditions here were not the greatest. Prop would shift from short to long and back again in an eyelash. I would work 3 – 4 EU stations with decent signals only to disappear to the usual short skip VA and PA stations.
I think participation.was down somewhat — both DX and USA/Canada. From reading 3830Scores, it would appear the best conditions were south of us.
I did stay up both nights straight thru with short breaks, but it really wiped me out. Sunday morning I quit an hour before SR…no new stations and too tired. Was only 10 Qs short of 800. So I got on in the last hour Sunday afternoon in hopes of snagging 10 more. Came up one short!
Missed usual easy mults: MT, NV, and BC. I think I worked at least a half dozen BCs in the January CW contest. Did work KH7XS which was nice. And ZL2OK for my first ZL or VK in this contest.
I did tune across a sad frequency fight. A big gun station was on a net frequency calling CQ. Made some disparaging comments toward the net. To the NCSs credit he did not retaliate. Some nets think they own the frequency. But the response from the contester did not reflect well on contesting.
Worked the usual CTRI suspects. I won’t trust my memory.
Next up: ARRL DX Phone this coming weekend.

Temp. 5/16 wave Inv L, vert portion less than 40 ft high for Tx/Rx; Icom-IC 7300 @ 100w; Heil ProSet iC Headset and Heil footswitch; N1MM+ Logger.
Only missed VO1/VO2 (no-shows?) east of the Mississippi.
A first time effort on Phone in this contest (using new club call once more) … Took breaks, got some sleep and kept it fun. A great way to get familiar with all the new rig filtering on the Topband! Had a nice chat at the ending bell (2200Z Sun eve) with John W1AN. Great score/club contribution from new member Don WA1BXY using NC1CC call!
