*URGENT* Team members sought – CW Open (Sat Sept 7: 00-04z, 12-16z, 20-24z)

All –

It has come to my attention that a significant number of club members are active operators via the CW mode (incl. a number of newer members). With the popular annual CW Open just a week away I’d like to encourage participation in this fun event (put on by the worthy CWOps organization) by entering a CTRI Contest Group team [maximum 10 team participants].

The contest occurs over three short 4-hour sessions starting this coming Friday eve (00z-04z on Saturday) with sessions two and three occurring 12-16z and 20-24z on Saturday. Team member participation can be for as much or as little as one can provide (ie. all 3 sessions or just part of one session). * No pressure* re: activity… would just like to get as near to ten available club members to be active on our team. Of course, increased team member participation (in more than one session) will add to our team final score. Additional event info is found here: https://cwops.org/cwops-tests/cw-open/

Contact me NLT Friday Sept 6 (by 2300z please) if interested in joining the team (membership in CWOps is NOT required for participation): wbliss1[at]cox[dot]net

Just for info — weekly CWOps Mini-Tests (good ‘live’ practice) are held each Wednesday at three separate times for an hour apiece…1300z, 1900z and 0300z (Thursday), utilizing a slightly different exchange.

  1. I’m up for it Bill but I’m planning to go up to boxboro Sat…not sure how much time I can put in. But it is a really fun contest.

  2. Thanks Dave, you’re in… ANY amount of time is just fine! As of Monday eve we have AB1BX Andy, you (K1SX) and myself on the team…seven available slots for additional interested operators. Spread the word…

  3. Sign me up.

I will have to miss Session 2 entirely, but should be able to do an hour or two each of Sessions 1 and 3. If there are other members willing to spend more time I would be happy to give up my slot. But I’m going to do some operating during the event whether a member of the CTRI team or on my own.

  4. Outstanding John (AJ1DM), I have added you to the CTRI team…many thanks! 73, Bill W1WBB

  5. I got in 47 qs in #1 , even several on 160 with a tumbled down inv L. , and 23 in #3 in what time I could. Good idea Bill, let’s do it again.

  6. I missed sessions 1 and 2 due to traveling to see my new grandson, but made 49 q’s on 3 bands in session 3. It was fun and I would also do it again. 73 de John AJ1DM

  7. Thanks “CTRI Contest Group CW Aficionados” Team members for your participation! I had fun as well.

Posted both my Low Power [Assisted] scores to 3830scores.com … Session 1 (3.75 hrs op time) 166 Q’s/124 mults/20,584 pts; Session 2 (2.5 hrs) 122/95/11,590. Missed points/mults on 160m (Fri eve) since Inv L refused to tune — located broken ground strap from antenna this week, repaired it and it tunes just fine now. Utilized 20/40/80m in both events, managed one QSO on 15m with F5IN in Session 2.

All in all a good little CW tune-up for upcoming contest season. First major CW event of the season is likely ARRL Sweepstakes, followed by CQWW DX CW (which does NOT land on Thanksgiving weekend THIS year!).

dit dit (es 73!), Bill W1WBB
