Ran the Sweepstakes on 40 QRP with the FT817ND into the Alpha Delta Plus antenna.
60 contacts with 32 Sections for 3840 for points.
40 was terrible Saturday night for short but went long to the West Coast.
Today got the short contacts. Never did this one in CW so it was a first!

Too much going on this weekend! SS is still fun, hunching over the keyboard and focusing on getting the NTS message headers. Heard Ken in there, and Andy BX tho I didn’t get a chance to call him. When I went out to do yard work Sat. morning, one halyard for the wire looked a little droopy. Sure enough, a pull brought it all down on me. The rest of it snagged in the tree so that the center insulator hung at 10′ instead of 50′, so I had an inverted inverted vee to figure out, with open wire feedline on ground. I stretched the feedline in a zigzag at about eye level and got it to tune, but it wasn’t itself. Anybody want to give their 2cents on what type of rope will best withstand tree branch abrasion? This was good dacron covered rope from the Wireman advertised as abrasion resistant, but I think I only got 2 years out of it. The outer jacket wore through then the inner strand broke. I got a good slingshot launch anyway, so when I have the new rope it might get higher than before. 73, Dave K1SX
Missed ‘all a youse guys’ (except Charlie ‘ECU) this year, how’s that?? W1XX as QRP heard near noise on 20m in S&P mode, same for KS1J.
80m is the new 40m these days, with 40m going so long early, esp if you want to work all the PVRC MDC and VA guys who come out of the woodwork every year for SS. I’ve had175+ 80m QSOs alone in SSCW for me these last two years. Even that band going long early — no more than *two* contacts from every W1 section (except NH – 3) and ENY + NLI with all the 80m time I used this year – strange. As always it’s a fun event!
Dave K1SX – I bought some fairly thin but heavy duty black poly antenna support line (1/8″ I think) from Davis RF (in NH) years ago which has really stood up, but not quite as easily bendable as 3/16″ Dacron but certainly better abrasion resistance.

Missed KL7 and NT. Never heard them Sat … unavailable Sun btwn 1625z and
2145z. Hunted them a bit late Sun up and down 15m and 20m, no luck. But in a 13 min span around 2200z Sun I got very lucky with new mults WTX, PAC, MB and NE in a combo of Run and S&P methods on 20m!
Most SECs worked: VA (27), MDC (26), OH (21), IL (16), EPA, TN & NC (12).
Made my first-ever 160m Sweepstakes contacts (yay!), all 7 Q’s made in the last
hour… suggest many other Topbanders try this again (SSB SS) as well as next
year, especially since even 80m started to go quite long pretty early on.
61% Run, 39% S and P. Lotsa repeats by far for my CK; recent club license
folks! Copy what ya hear as the N1MM+ pre-fill info was a mess for me this year.
