1X1 SE LoTW and qrz.com Page

I think I forgot to ask everyone using a 1×1 call sign if they are on LoTW. This is important for people to know if they need to confirm a QSO with you and don’t want to send a QSL card.

It’s last minute but will anyone who DOES NOT have a LoTW account or DOES NOT intend to upload their QSO data to LoTW please let me know here? That way I can let people know who is using it.

As for qrz.com, it would be great if everyone could edit their page to include information about the 1×1 SE operation. Below I have included what I wrote on my page, which you can use as a guide if you’d like to make it easy on yourself. Please make sure you edit the QSL info to specify MY call sign (NG1G) as the QSL address.

CTRI 1×1 Special Event Information

I will be using the call sign K1W during this event. ***QSL to NG1G ONLY*** You can also look up any of our members’ 1×1 call signs on http://www.1x1callsigns.org/

Between May 1-15, 2012 the CTRI Contest Group will celebrate its 20th anniversary with 26 1×1 Special Event call signs. Operation will also coincide with the New England QSO Party, May 5-6. Club members will operate from Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Vermont, on various frequencies and modes. Work 10 call signs for the certificate. Send QSL card or log info plus large SASE and $2 to defray the cost of certificate. Submissions must be postmarked not later than June 1, 2012.

The following call signs will be activated: CT – K1C, K1Q, K1R, K1T, N1M, N1Q, W1A; RI – K1B, K1D, K1G, K1J, K1K, K1L, K1O, K1U, K1W, N1H, N1R, W1M, W1R, W1W, W1Y; MA – K1N, K1V, W1B; VT – K1M. All RI counties and several from CT and MA will be activated, as will Chittendon County in Vermont.

The CTRI Contest Group was formed by members of the South Coast Wireless Society who were interested in pursuing the radiosport aspect of amateur radio. From a core group of only a few hams, CTRI now has 25 or so active members who have made a substantial name for themselves as single-operator and multi-operator entries in many contests, including #1 World, #1 North America, and #1 US. Our list of accomplishments also include several North American and US records for various contests, in QRP, Low Power, High Power, and Multi-Op categories.

Over the years our club has been very active in supporting the ham and non-ham community, to include tower and antenna work, emergency communications, volunteer support for the New England Convention, presentations to local clubs, and other commemorative special event stations.

Please take the time to get on the air and work our members, especially during the New England QSO Party (www.neqp.org). It’s a fun contest even for non-contesters, and a great opportunity to work some fairly rare states and counties on various bands.

  1. I also want to add that you can put in your qrz.com page that people can look up your 1×1 call sign at http://www.1x1callsigns.org/

It’s just another way for folks to get information about from where we are operating, although we want them to understand that they need to QSL to my address. They can get more info from QST, CQ magazine, and the ARRL and CQ web sites.

***Remember, we are required to identify with our assigned “home call” once per hour.

  2. Update – I used the qrz.com support center (“Contact the Administrators”) to request that they add my 1×1 call K1W to qrz.com. within 20 minutes it was done.

I hope it’s this easy for everyone.

  3. Hi Pat:
Thanks for that info. I have been unable to get K1K going on QRZ.com and will do as you did to get that call sign added. Did you click on the menu item “Contact” and then select “Contact us?” I can’t find a Support center or “Contact the Administrators.”

  4. I received an email from the QRZ admins saying that K1K had been assigned to me about 15 minutes after I posed the request! Now all I have to figure out is how to add info to the web site. 🙂

Got it done! Check out K1K on qrz.com

  5. Nice, Ken! I’m going to use your page as a template for K1W if you don’t mind.

The only thing I would say is that at the meeting we decided to say only that the special event is commemorating the club’s 20th anniversary, and leaving out the part about ARRL affiliation.

I hope the rest of the members get their 1×1 calls temporarily “assigned” to them through qrz.com so anyone who works even one station without knowing what’s going on can find out easily enough.

  6. No problem, Pat. I copied it from W1WBB/K1B site :-).

I’ll remove the reference to ARRL affiliation.

PAT… I just made some changes so you might want to take another peek.

  7. I see what you did there. That brings attention to the question I asked up top about members who *do not* have a LoTW account or *do not* intend on uploading their 1×1 QSOs to LoTW. I’m hoping everyone does and will, because it should make it easier on us for QSLing. I think a June 1st deadline to upload is a good idea. I intend on uploading mine either on May 15 or 16, and will probably create a separate log in my general logging program for this purpose.

If anyone needs help either setting up a LoTW account or adding their 1×1 (or any other) call sign just let me know and I’ll be glad to help. Just please don’t wait until the last minute because I don’t know if I’ll have time then.

  8. Ken/Pat…glad to see your 1×1 c/s sites on QRZ.com are up and running! I’ll also modify my site deleting the club ARRL-affiliation reference re: the 20th anniv.

I will also create a separate log within N1MM logger just for my “K1B” 1×1 c/s QSOs with upload to ARRL’s LoTW shortly after the 2-week activity period.

  9. I set up W1B on LOTW last week, and had quite a time trying to get to add the call on QRZ.com
Finally sent an e-mail to the administrators and got them to add the call. Unfortunately can’t still edit some of the info they put in, but I guess it will fly. Will modify to remove the ARRL affiliation, and check the other stations listings to clean it up a bit. Any suggestions, please let me know. I expect to run seperate logs for the overall operation and the NEQP /7QP / ARI / INQP log.
Hope to put in a good showing for the NEQP running high power from WORMA.

  10. Hi Norm – Good to hear from you! Will look forward to working you in NEQP… W1B de K1B!! Best of luck and have fun. Take care…

  11. Hi Norm,

I think it looks great! You could add info about the special event to your W1BYH qrz.com page as well. I did that on mine and I think some other members are too.

  12. QRZ administrators gave me access to W1A in less than 10 minutes. I must have been on-line at exactly the right time. My W1A and K1DM pages are now updated with QSL information. Pat, stand by to be overwhelmed with QSL requests!

    73, Mike, K1DM/W1A

  13. That’s great, Mike! I must say, the qrz.com admin folks are on the ball. Everyone who has added their 1×1 says the same thing.

    Pat, NG1G/K1W
