CQWW WPX CW is this weekend May 26 – 27… the last major HF contest that counts for the CTRI CG intraclub championship for this contest season.

The CQ WPX website – linked to the above site – may be the most comprehensive and interesting site on the web for *a specific contest*…it is really very well done and is a ‘must view’ before jumping in to CQ WPX CW this weekend — check it out!
Even if you have little time available to operate this holiday weekend (and especially if you have a rare-type prefix in your call) you will be in demand for those in the contest… so turn on the radio, call CQ and have some fun.
Additional food for thought…for LoTW users the WPX award program is presently being implemented into LoTW. Many rare and unique prefixes will be on-air THIS weekend and can soon be applied towards the WPX award electronically.

Thanks for the reminder, Bill. I went to the site and got reminded to update my country file, which I haven’t done in a while. It’s always a good thing to do before WPX.
The bands haven’t been great but I’ve taken advantage of the DXpeditions and caught a few new band-countries and I think an all-time new one. If conditions improve it should be very interesting but I’m going to concentrate on 80M, as I’m only 10 countries short on that band from 5BDXCC. I’ll try low power at first, and if I have trouble will go high power without hesitation, especially if it means the difference between a new one or not.

I just can’t sit any more. 15M was HOT! 80M didn’t provide the Qs I was hoping for, but I stayed assisted low power to remain “competitive”. I think I only worked KS1J in the club. Did S&P, of course.

It was open all day long and into the evening. I found basically nothing on 10 and 80 and 20 meters was not very good until Sunday afternoon when signals finally came up. Worked in between trips to the Carousel at Crescent Park, walks on the Bike Path, and Parcheesi with the grand-daughter.
This was a fun one since everyone can work every one and the prefixes are endless.
Pat was the only one I worked from the club. I was SOAB LP assisted but to tell you the truth I got most of my Q’s calling CQ and found that many of the spots were phantoms or not workable. This was especially true for 10. I would take a look at the spots for 10 and say “Hey maybe I should go up there” and once there it was the usual handful of PY’s and LU’s.
Next contest is IARU Radiosport but that one I will definitely be sitting out.
