Questions on N1MM and Getting My FT1000D on FSK

I need to install a Printer port and a couple of serial ports on my Dell 5150 that is in the shack. Anyone have any ideas of what card I should by that will work?

  2. Hi Bill:

    I have a SIIG 2 port serial card, but nothing with a parallel port (I’m assuming that is what you mean when you say “Printer port.” I just checked my “old” computer and it has a parallel port but it looks like it is directly off of the motherboard. Your best bet is probably W1AN who has more computer “Stuff” than anyone I know of.

    Thanks for the input. I worked on it today and seems my old brain figured out how to connect everything via USB. The only problem now is getting N1MM and MMTTY to work. Anyone have any ideas getting it running on the 1000D?
    The shack is 90% done with just a 220 line to run upstairs.

  4. Hey Bill,

    If the 1000D is still connected to the computer in the same way as before, getting N1MM and MMTTY to work should be fairly easy. *My* slightly younger brain(!) can’t seem to recall how it was connected. I’d offer to come down this weekend to help you out but I have an exam on Monday that I’m certain is going to kill me before I even get to take it, so I’ll have my head buried in books all weekend.

  5. RTTY FSK Runs from a serial port to the 4 pin Din connector on the back of the FT1000D. You need an adpater cable with the keying for TX and FSK built in. Did you not have this setup before??? I have the circuitry to build one if needed.

  6. Yes John I had it hooked up when I was using Writelog. It is plugged in to the rig and the computer but can’t seem to get N1MM to hear or TX at this point.

  7. You need to go into the digital modes in N1MM Configurer and select sound card for TU type then set the path to MMTTY. Do you have MMTTY working as a standalone? There, FSK and TX will be on the same selected port. If it works there you should be able to get it working in N1MM. In the latest versions of N1MM you also need to select the digital port in the port selections. The settings there can control PTT(normally RTS) and CW(normally DTR) if you need it. FSK will be alway be on TxD.

    In N1MM configurer you need to select the RIG type and also the port to communicate with the rig. The 1000D uses 4800 baud N,8,1, I think. I use DTR on the same port for CW. But you need a special cable for that. So just turn off both RTS and DTR.

    The sound from the rig to the PC comes off one of the pins on the FSK 4-Pin Din connector. You need to select which sound input you are using and set the levels in Windows (recording) settings.

  8. Hmmmm….

    I am running the latest version of N1MM (12.10.2) and for RTTY and CW I absolutely do NOT need to select the digital port on the Hardware Tab of the Configurer. The only ports I have anything on is COM1 for the K3 and COM5 checked as CW for my WinKeyer USB. All of the RTTY Setup happens in the MMTTY Setup Window. TX and Misc Tab where COM2 is set for FSK & RTTY and nothing is filled in on the Radio Command window; in Misc TabI have TxPort set for COM-TxD(FSK). That’s it… nuttin else… and it works just fine.

  9. Of course, I wouldn’t need to check off a Digital port for CW, but remember… CW was the first digital mode.

  10. Ok An update on my MMTTY and 1000D.

    Looks like the connector the Rick made for me that plugs into the rig has seen better days. I need to contact Rick and see if he can remember the wiring for it. Anyone have his email address?

    Just because Ive got this working and have been using N1MM since 2004, I will comment. That if you look in your 1000 manual you will see the config of the 4 pin plug. That will go to the keying and the ground on the wires to the HB interface. The trick using USB with N1MM and FSK is to make sure you have a program called Externalfsk loaded and selected. I know Ive done it without this program with a native serial port and Rig blaster. But if you use a USB port anywhere in the rtty keying chain you need this to convert the 5 bit logic to 8 bit. Gee things I remember at 6:30am after working and playing in 4 contest all night hihi

    after messing with it again and talking to ken he was able to walk me through some things. I now have rec & TX thats the good part, the bad part is now I have no diddles just a solid tone. What am I missing?
