NP3U (Jan 12th 2013)

InsolatorTalked to Carlos on the phone this afternoon. I got some answers to some of our questions.

Internet: Same as we used last time: However WP4Z has and internet company with a tower with a bunch of anteenas on it that we can access via a 2m link. I guess he (WP4Z) uses it that way for his station. Carlos will talk to him. Lets plan on bringing the gear down to set it up.

Anteena update: They did get the beams up but found the rotors did not work so he has ordered two new ones and they (Carlos & his friends) will have them installed.

Would Like: Cables for the ICE filters  that connect to the radios to make them swicth freq together?

A center insolator for the 80M Delta loop you can take a look at what he means at http://www.alphadeltacom.com/pg11.html Maybe someone has something like this in thier junk box.

I asked him again to send a list of wants and needs via email.

I was going to have a meeting of the group that is going next weekend but we’ll have to put it off until the weekend of the 26 or 27th if you think that will work. If not I can cancel what I need to do next weekend.

Don’t know how this got posted 4 times, but I deleted the other 3 after carefully checking to see that they were the same. Do you recall encountering any problems when you posted it??

Re: the Internet access… Sorry to hear this. Hope that he can get a packet link from his neighbor. Did he way what gear would be needed that he doesn’t have?

Re: ICE filters… need more info to determine what he has and what he needs. If he needs multi conductor cable, did he say how many conductors and how long? The K3s have Band Output info available on the Accessory jack, but don’t know if these will work by themselves for whatever he has in mind. A band decoder may be necessary.

  2. Ken,

If I remember correctly, those multi-band ICE filters are both manually and automagically switched, but then again I can’t remember what I had for breakfast today. Maybe someone with better recollection can weigh in. I don’t believe we used them in automagic mode – not sure if we/he had/has the proper decoder for them or not. I seem to recall switching them manually.

  3. That’s my recollection also, Pat. When we were there in Feb 09, they weren’t even switchable… just the individual filters for each band which required changing when we switched bands.
