Jay and I took a 4 hour round trip drive to Salem, NH to pick up Carlos’ “NEW” 2 Element 40m beam. At HRO, they advised us to check the parts list and the boxes to make sure all the parts were there. So we did. GUESS WHAT?!?! The antenna was USED, missing ALL the X-Hats, parts of the tubing for the elements, dinged, scratched and dented. HRO is shipping another one from California to their Salem store, and it looks like I’m going to have to take another ride to pick it up, along with another $50 in gas. Good news is Carlos bought 2 new rotators that shipped out at the beginning of the week, and should be installed by the time we get there.
I REALLY NEED A VACATION.

Bill,
Let me ask the question again. Why don’t you just have the antenna shipped directly to Carlos and let those members who said they’d pay for it do so? You are going to wind up spending nearly the same in gas, time, and hassle, and without the need to do so.
I would also suggest making it very clear to HRO that our club’s and Carlos’ entry in this contest is highly dependent on them shipping a *new* antenna with all the pieces. *They* ought to be inspecting the antenna to make sure *their* customer is receiving what *he* is paying for. I’m sure that over the years our collective members have spent a significant amount at HRO and that HRO would like for that to continue. For me, how they handle this situation will make the difference in my future purchases between calling HRO and say, R&L, for instance. I’d play that card in a heartbeat.
