At the most recent meeting, the club authorized renting a brush cutter (hog) to clear out the brush in the “back 40” for antenna installation. This to be followed by professional bug spraying. Our intent is to do this ASAP before growth starts to sprout. Prospective dates weather dependent are this Saturday (Ap 27) or Mon, Tues, or Wed next week…date to be coordinated with Jim Crawford of Skyscrapers. The brush cutter is located at Taylor Rental in Warwick. The hitch is that we need a pickup truck (or similar) to transport to the site in N. Scituate and return to Warwick. Can anyone help with a truck? Post here…email me at w1xx AT cox DOT net or …call my landline: 401-783-1588.

All: Club member Dean, K1HSY, has come to the rescue to facilitate brush removal at the Field Day site (Seagrave Observatory in N. Scituate). He is not supplying a truck…but it’s not a horse either. It’s a Jeep
and trailer. He’s picking up a HD brush cutter from Taylor Rental and also bringing his John Deere tractor to
cut close. When? This coming Monday Ap 29 at 9:30 AM. If anyone would like to help out with the project, just show up at 47 Peeptoad Road, N. Scituate. So far K1JSM, W1XX, and K1HSY will be on the job. We’ll report the results when done.
If you’re looking for something to do on the radio during this rainy weekend, try the Florida QSO Party. It’s a fun event. 73. — John, W1XX
Wish I could make it but have to be at work Monday…..
Watch out for those briars!

OK Jim understand. Anybody want to push a brush cutter or ride a tractor, here’s your chance. See details above.
John,
Since I wasn’t able to attend the meeting, I’m curious – what is the brush cutter and bug spraying going to cost us?

All: UPDATE. Successful clearing of the back area for Field Day. TNX to Dean, K1HSY, who picked up and transported the heavy duty brusher cutter and his own John Deer tractor for close mowing via his landscaping type trailer/Jeep. Kudos to Dean for stepping up to the plate. The ace however was Bob, KA1EMH, who lives in Hope… was there with Jim Crawford of Skyscrapers. Bob has experience with handling the cutter (which is no easy job) and maneuvered the brush cutter into the thick of it… while John K1JSM and I helped with clearing shears and taking down saplings. The vicious briers have been leveled and largely pulverized. Skyscrapers has a regular bug spraying contract (later in June) for the grassy areas and we’ll cover any small additional cost to extend to this area. We finished exhausted a bit after noon.
