Meeting Notice — March 14, 2015

It’s that time again. If you are familiar with the interactive meeting notice skip down to “Topics“. This is an interactive meeting notice. What, you may ask, is an interactive meeting notice? As the phrase suggests, it is a meeting notice which requires interaction by the readers. For example: we need to have topics for presentation at the meeting; we need presenters; we need volunteers to provide lunch; we need to know who is coming to the meeting so the quantity of lunch portions may be determined, and so on. This post will be updated as interactions (comments) are appended.

2014-2015 CTRI Champions Leaderboard

It has been a while since I posted the Leaderboard, so I will go ahead and post it even though there is an ongoing contest this weekend and one next weekend. I will post an updated version again after the ARRL Phone Contest next weekend (Mar 7-8). As a reminder, this spreadsheet shows not only the raw scores for each of the contest, but also beginning at Row 35 is a display of the handicapped scores using the previously defined rules. If you click on the Tab labeled TOTALS, you should see a table with the current handicapped standings.

Here is the Leaderboard updated with info received through the 2015 ARRL DX CW Contest. This is posted as a Excel 97-2003 spreadsheet. To view it and/or download it, click on the link below.

2015 ARRL DX CW Results

I had better put this up on the website before I forget about it. Don’t know how many participated, but please post your results for this contest here by adding a comment/reply to this posting. Also, don’t forget to submit your results to the sponsor. Did not hear NP3U on (yet) but did work Jose, KP4JRS, who several of us met in PR a couple years ago.

Results posted here will be added to the CTRI Champions Leaderboard.

2015 CQ WPX RTTY Contest Results

Sure hope that lots of members stayed at home this weekend and made some contacts in this contest. Between snow relocation projects, I have managed to put in a couple of hours.

Please post your results by adding a comment to this posting. Don’t forget to submit your log to the contest sponsor. Note the following from the published rules…

XII. LOG DEADLINE:

A. All entries must be sent WITHIN FIVE (5) DAYS after the end of the contest: no later than 2359 UTC 20 February 2015. Resubmitting an entry after the deadline will result in it being considered as a late log.

Winter Weather Warning for this Weekend

Best we pay attention to the weather forecast for this weekend. Record low temperatures are predicted along with 6-8″ of snow with sustained winds of 35 MPH and gusts up to 60MPH for Sunday, wind chills below -20F. Have some firewood ready, flashlights and fuel for your generators. It may get a little interesting. It would have been a good weekend to be in PR.

K1N Navassa Operation Finishes this Weekend.

The country that tops the DXCC most wanted list is Navassa Island in the Caribbean. Operating with the call K1N they have amassed over 110,000 QSOs so far. Although it hasn’t been easy, I’ve been able to work them on several band slots. Since the split operation has been so spread out it is has been tough for them to find you. So patience is key. They also seem to add additional time slots almost daily. Today they’ve opened up several more.

If you don’t have Navassa in your log, catch them now or you may not have another chance for 10 years. It has been 22 years since the last operation! http://navassadx.com

Luncheon Success

My early indication that last Saturday’s CTRI luncheon might meet in a phone booth proved unfounded…happy to say.  It was a very FB affair with something like 16 attending….with lots of the usual chatter on contesting, DXing, who worked K1N…all good fun with camaraderie, kibitzing, etc. I did not want to see it go unrecognized, so here’s my unofficial observer report.

Veep K1SD called an impromptu meeting with the highlight being the election of three new members:  Russ, KA1ERL; Bob, WB4SON; Willy, W1LY; all members of the W1AW/1  Team RI.  K1SD is forwarding their e-mail addresses to Sec. W1PN for passwords to the CTRI website.

Great to see CTRI member and our RI Section Manager W1YRC present.

I’d like to offer my accolades to Jim KS1J for his efforts to locate and gather e-mail addresses of past active members that encourage them to rejoin the fray.

Lotsa contests on the horizon….CTRI credited scores big and small welcomed.

Meeting Notice — January 31, 2015

A meeting location has finally been found. The room is areally challenged and is strictly limited to 10 people. If you arrive late you may not be able to attend. On the other hand it has been some time since we had 11 or more in attendance.

It’s that time again. If you are familiar with the interactive meeting notice skip down to “Topics“. This is an interactive meeting notice. What, you may ask, is an interactive meeting notice? As the phrase suggests, it is a meeting notice which requires interaction by the readers. Request for RI ops (& others) SSB Sprint this Saturday eve!

Got an e-mail asking for add’l ops from RI (& beyond!) in this weekend’s NA SSB Sprint – a 4-hour contest on 20/40/80m bands only, starting this Sat. eve at 7pm local, going ’til 11pm.  A new enthusiastic group of contesters has taken over sponsorship of this event from NCJ with full details at www.ssbsprint.com including a place to post your expected activity and lots of available participation prizes.   They hope to have ops from all 50 states on-air.  I plan at least part-time activity from here.  Anyone else able to provide the RI mult??

Sprints, billed as the fastest 4 hours in radiosport [assuming enough activity!], are quite fun but have a **unique** QSY rule preventing ops from ‘running’ on a particular frequency.  Takes just a bit of time to learn the rhythym — see the website for details including a ‘tips and advice’ link.   But essentially, you must QSY a minimum of 5 kHz after having called CQ *and* completing a QSO before CQing again; or QSY a minimum of 1 kHz before answering another CQer ( the so-called 5/1 rule).  Upon inheriting a frequency after answering  another CQer, you may remain there to call CQ yourself until completing 1 QSO — then you must QSY again!

Good luck and 73, Bill  W1WBB
