YCCC Open House 12 Apr 2015

Announcing…

The Yankee Clipper Contest Club Open House
Sunday, April 12, 2015
1-4:30pm
Sturbridge Host Hotel
366 Main Street
Sturbridge, MA 01566

Yankee Clipper Contest Club, one of the largest Ham Radio clubs in the Northeast, is proud to open it’s doors to the general Ham population of the area! We invite all hams to come and experience one of our meetings. We will be presenting special material, of interest to all hams who operate the HF bands, relating to design and construction of your ham radio station.

Presentations will include:

“Whats the Best HF Transceiver for Me? -A Radio Selection Strategy”
– by Brian Machesney, K1LI and others

“Antenna Selection and Design- What’s Important” – by Joe Reisert, W1JR

YCCC is a club of over 350 members who are interested in Contesting. As such, we have developed a high level of expertise in station and antenna system design and HF transceiver selection, and would love to share this with the general ham community in the region. Whether you are just starting to put together your first station, or are well on your way, we’re certain you will pick up some great tips from these talks!

Please come and meet with our members, and hear some presentations that can have an immediate impact on the performance of your station!

We will also be selling raffle tickets to support the YCCC ARRL Youth Scholarship. Tickets will be sold for $25 per chance to win an Elecraft K3/100 Transceiver. We expect to hold the drawing at this meeting* – a lucky ham will go home with a new Elecraft K3/100 kit!

* Cash or checks accepted, no credit cards. YCCC reserves the right to delay the drawing until sufficient tickets have been sold to cover the prize and the donation.

Meeting Notice — April 4, 2015

It’s that time again. If you are familiar with the interactive meeting notice skip down to “Topics“. This is an interactive meeting notice. What, you may ask, is an interactive meeting notice? As the phrase suggests, it is a meeting notice which requires interaction by the readers. For example: we need to have topics for presentation at the meeting; we need presenters; we need volunteers to provide lunch; we need to know who is coming to the meeting so the quantity of lunch portions may be determined, and so on. This post will be updated as interactions (comments) are appended.

WPX SSB This Weekend

As some of you experienced or heard, conditions for last weekends Russian DX contest were challenging. Fortunately conditions are rapidly improving for the next big one, the CQ WPX Phone contest. Work everyone everywhere. Multipliers are unique prefixes. I hope all can put some time in the chair. And there is plenty of chair time available here at W1AN/W1DX. I don’t have a special prefix (yet) but high Q rates can be expected.

2014-2015 CTRI Champions Leaderboard

I was reminded today at our regular meeting that I had not posted the leaderboard that contained the results posted through the 2015 ARRL Phone DX Contest. Sorry ’bout that. As a reminder, this spreadsheet shows not only the raw scores for each of the contest, but also beginning at Row 35 is a display of the handicapped scores using the previously defined rules. If you click on the Tab labeled TOTALS, you should see a table with the current handicapped standings. For info about the handicapping, please co to this link… http://ctri.club/2014/09/07/a-proposal-for-handicapping-scores-in-the-ctri-champions-competition/

2014-2015 CTRI Champions Leaderboard

It has been a while since I posted the Leaderboard, so I will go ahead and post it even though there is an ongoing contest this weekend and one next weekend. I will post an updated version again after the ARRL Phone Contest next weekend (Mar 7-8). As a reminder, this spreadsheet shows not only the raw scores for each of the contest, but also beginning at Row 35 is a display of the handicapped scores using the previously defined rules. If you click on the Tab labeled TOTALS, you should see a table with the current handicapped standings.

Here is the Leaderboard updated with info received through the 2015 ARRL DX CW Contest. This is posted as a Excel 97-2003 spreadsheet. To view it and/or download it, click on the link below.

2015 ARRL DX CW Results

I had better put this up on the website before I forget about it. Don’t know how many participated, but please post your results for this contest here by adding a comment/reply to this posting. Also, don’t forget to submit your results to the sponsor. Did not hear NP3U on (yet) but did work Jose, KP4JRS, who several of us met in PR a couple years ago.

Results posted here will be added to the CTRI Champions Leaderboard.

2015 CQ WPX RTTY Contest Results

Sure hope that lots of members stayed at home this weekend and made some contacts in this contest. Between snow relocation projects, I have managed to put in a couple of hours.

Please post your results by adding a comment to this posting. Don’t forget to submit your log to the contest sponsor. Note the following from the published rules…

XII. LOG DEADLINE:

A. All entries must be sent WITHIN FIVE (5) DAYS after the end of the contest: no later than 2359 UTC 20 February 2015. Resubmitting an entry after the deadline will result in it being considered as a late log.

Winter Weather Warning for this Weekend

Best we pay attention to the weather forecast for this weekend. Record low temperatures are predicted along with 6-8″ of snow with sustained winds of 35 MPH and gusts up to 60MPH for Sunday, wind chills below -20F. Have some firewood ready, flashlights and fuel for your generators. It may get a little interesting. It would have been a good weekend to be in PR.
