Sling Shot

Happy Post T-Day!

Does anoyone have one of those Sling Shot – like an EZ Hang or such – to shoot antenna ropes into high places that I could borrow for a weekend?  I’ve tried with a ladder, but only got the antenna ~25′ off the ground.  Was hoping for closer to 40′.

Thanks,  Mike Visich

  1. Hi Mike,

I think I have a gadget that will do what you need. It needs a little maintenance, which I will try to take care of this week. I could come over next weekend sometime and give you a hand if you’d like. Let me know what day and time. The ARRL 160m contest is next weekend. I’l play in it a little, but I don’t really have an antenna for it so I’ll be available for the most part.

  2. Hi Mike
I’ve a sling shot available that I’ve used before to toss antenna support lines over trees. Also have a fishing reel I used to pay out the line. Includes assorted weights, etc.
    Let me know.

  3. I am not volunteering him, but you might check with W1XX who has been known to shoot an arrow into the air with a pretty good idea as to where it will fall… particularly with a string/cord attached to it.
    Good Luck, Mike.

  4. I might be able to get my hands on a line throw gun. It had the string and the “launcher”. Uses .22 cal. So it will only sound like a “pop” when it goes off.

  5. Mike,

How did you make out? I also have a sling shot, but I like my spud gun better. We should be able to put a fishing line over a tree at least 80 feet high. If some of the guys in RI are closer, give them a try first.
If all the other attempts, let me know. I can arrange a trip to help out.

  6. First off thank you for all the reply’s. I would like to try a line throw guy / spud gun. I’ve never used a sling shot and a bow & arrow … I’d most likely get hurt.

Jay in Westerly, can you get the line throw gun? Otherwise I’ll I guess I’ll drive to Salem and visit Mike.

  7. Mike,

You don’t have to drive to Salem. I can come to you! Let me know when a good time might be. During the week, I am available during the day, since I am retired.

  8. Mike – Thank you very much. Will you be in RI anytime soon for any other reason – I’d hate for you to drive all this way just for me. I work at the Navy base in Newport but live in Wakefield.

  9. Mike,

I don’t think I will be in RI for a while. I have to go the Virginia this week, and won’t be back until sometime Saturday.
