  1. Calling all Quahogs!!! I’m doing a single band 80, and several of my Qs were BEGGIN me to go to 40 for the RI multiplier. Stations are desperate for the RI mult. My 40 M antenna is broke. So you RI quahogs…if you can do 40…put RI on the map tonite. GL!! 73!

  2. I wish I’d seen John’s post before this. I considered going down to 40, but no mults were listed on the spotter so I stuck to the higher bands. I didn’t put much time into this and concentrated on jumping on multipliers. 10m was good to Europe for most of the time I was on. I figured this might be the last chance for a while to jack up the 10m DXCC counts.

    Comments:
I didn’t have many options for this one except 80 meter HP using the remains of the 160 vertical plus some linear loading at the base. Even got 5 hours sleep each night. Was able to run the EU 100-watters working split ala K3LR and W3LPL. Had done very little of that before. Calling CQ simplex in the 3.6 and 3.7 segments brought very little results. Called CQ in the 3810 -3825 segment listening on the low end of 3600 brought a steady stream of EU customers…K and 100-watters alike. I can’t say enough about beverage receiving antennas…even relatively short ones. My EU RX antenna is only 220 feet using electric fence wire. Norm, W1BYH, called in in on my RX frequency to advise that he had monitored my last 5 EU Qs…and he did not hear a peep signal-wise! Wow! Often you hear ops say they have beverage RX antennas 1000 or so feet long. My longest is 550 for the south direction. It does not work as well as my other much shorter ones. If even 200 feet or so is not doable at your QTH, there are other options: K9AY loops, pennant, etc. for low band receiving. Things got a little boring after EU got in sunlight around 2 AM our time…so spent some snooze time til our sunrise for the Pacific…which wasn’t very productive. Worked several VKs, ZL, and a few others but it was slow. Heard JA but no QSO. And I can’t belive I never heard Hawaii. I heard KL7RA once working someone, but I did not work AK. My goals were 300 Qs and 70 countries. Made both..so I’m happy with that. Hope we get some warm weather soon, so we can proceed with getting the station back together properly. 73! — John, W1XX

  4. Played a little in this one. Was setup for multi-op but ended up riding alone. Rates got pretty good just S&Ping on 15 and 10M. Over 200 Q/Hr was seen. Many 100W and QRP EU, SA and Pacific Stations worked including JA. Had some power line noise on 15 and 10M for a while but was surprised at times when background noise was nil on 10M. Even the very weak ones could be pulled in.

  5. Here are the contents of my earlier email (edited)

With the beam in disarray due to a busted truss line until about 8:00 PM on
Saturday, I pretty much missed the first day. Chris came over and graciously gave me a replacement turnbuckle which I will try to use in the next few weeks or so.
Anyway, I got in the swing of things on Sunday. Band conditions were variable at this end. 10 Meters came alive in mid-morning to EU which was a good surprise. Spent much of my time
bouncing around the top three bands. 40 was pretty good as well especially
Sunday night just before the contest ended.

BTW, a high percentage of my Q’s were thanking me for the “RI” mult and this was on Sunday over 30 hours into the contest. This makes playing in this contest even more fun.

No 160 antenna. This is the last season I go without one. Will get something
up during the summer assuming I have trees left. Much damage after the
    blizzard.

  7. Spent a little time in the chair, no 160 or 40 meter antenna.

    160 0 0
    80 49 36
    40 13 13

Will be time to start working on antennas soon.
