I see that I should not have gone to the WA1RR web site, but clicked on the “View this post online” button.
And now I see that there is a LISTSERVE menu item on the regular site that will take me to the LISTSERVE page.

The theory is that if one so desired one could read and contribute to all posts without ever leaving one’s email client.
Those of us who prefer not to follow the listserve model can proceed exactly as we have been doing without ever using our email client.
Presently one must have a user account to participate which may be slightly more restrictive than Yahoo (I can’t remember if you have to have an account to just read), but for our environment I don’t think that is too much trouble for a user. In any case I think it may be possible to secure the site fairly well and give minimal access to anyone who registers without having to wait any longer than to get a return email from their registration action. The newest versions of several plugins look promising for securing from most risks.
I am beginning to understand what is happening. However, what I don’t see happening, or how to make it happen, is initiating a posting to the LISTSERVE using only my email client sending an email. Without really knowing what would happen, I filled in the settings for my email account with cox (kenk3iu @ cox.net) ion the Postie plug in. Not sure what to expect, other than the possibility that it would take a look at my account at cox and do something with it sees. So far, it hasn’t gotten anything from that account on cox.
