   Conditions seemed pretty good but I had little time this weekend. I strung out a bog but it didn’t work at all so all tx/rx was with the inverted-l. Heard/worked W1AN, W1XX, W1WBB and Ken (I think). Lots of RI stations on for this one.

   Comments: Condx the first nite to EU were pretty so-so, but the second nite was really good. From about 8 PM to 11, it sounded much like 20 meters. Died down somewhat, then at EU SR came back to life. Worked long strings of 10 pointers. Real fun. Worked 4 KH6s early in the morning the second night, but never heard WY or VE5. KH7M and KH6LC when worked were both as strong as a gnat’s fart, but heard two hours later at S8. Think I worked 4 VE6s which is usually the difficult one. The usual impossible VEs were not of course worked by anyone. Always wanted to go on a DX-pedition to NU. Did get some sleep during some of the nighttime hours that looked somewhat non-productive. But anything over 20 hours in this contest has got to be like calling CQ on UHF. The 2nd night, at 5 PM EU stations had good signals but not hearing me. Call after call. So took two hours of needed sleep, and at 8 PM EU was gangbusters. Stayed thru til 7 AM next morning. I think this was my best country count ever. All in all, had fun. Worked: K3IU, KS1J, and W1WBB and some other RI’ers. Still got some excited comments upon working RI…always nice. Anyone hesitant about working a CW contest will find a 160 contest at a more comfortable speed …not like a Porsche 911 as in some DX contests. Adios! — John, W1XX

4. Put in about 3 hours with my low 80 meter dipole and using the 500 watt amp for a gain multiplier. I did work the Portugal to the east, PJ2T & C6A to the south, and Arkansas & Kansas to the west. Worked W1XX, and 2 other RI stations, but not you Jim… I know that I heard you a couple of times, but we didn’t connect.

   SOLP(A) effort Day 2 only. DX Cluster on; but not really used. Mostly ran; spent little time on DX. A few calls, then moved on. Seven 10-pt QSOs. DX: CU DL EI OZ; C6 HH HK KH6 KP2 PJ2 XE ZF. Some good ears to the west include:
   AC6DD, KH6LC, VE6BBP, K7CA, K5RX.

   100w to 3/8 wv Inv L for TX/RX. Vert radiator up less than 40′ ;^(
