Bill W1WBB and Charles K1ECU and I enjoyed the fair to decent condition last weekend on phone. I started out on 20M Saturday running low power. That proved to be a very frustrating experience. It seemed I couldn’t even hear myself so I jumped to HP and warmed up the amp. By about midnite I had worked nearly 70 sections. An early start in the morning before sunrise got the section total easily to near 80 before the arrival of the the first relief crew member Bill W1WBB. I became backup/break operator for the rest of the contest when Charles K1ECU arrived later. WY was number 81. Two back to back NL sections were worked to fill slot number 82. Last section 83 worked was AK by Bill. Worked W1XX, W1CTN, K1ECU (from home qth). Heard KI1G very late.

NG1Mike stopped by Sunday noonish to visit and operate. Lunch and an extended chat session got in the way of operating, but he did go home with a rig and cables to test out his new tower and antennas. He just may be on for the 10M contest with his new setup.

    Comments:
I wuz under the weather all week. Saw doctor on Wednesday, went on anti-biotics Friday, almost
cancelled. Voice was 2 octaves lower…sometimes struggling. Thanks to Bob XA who did the heavy
lifting and I filled in for shorter spurts. But the contest was great. 20 meters returned to what we expect
in this contest: an endless stream of callers. Lotsa QRM on 40 and the 80 meter FD wire dipole at 50 feet did a good job. RI seemed rather scarce…in fact when I was on, never worked one. Highlight was VY1AAA calling us! (Note to Lars: Of course, op Gerry knows we are in RI).
Be sure to send in your score for CTRI credit. 73!

  2. Great job everyone, at least for the moment you’re looking very good on 3830.
I spent some odd minutes and made 12 q’s for 192 points. Phone contesting with 5 watts isn’t as much fun as CW, I’ll just have to join the multi one of these times.
I looked for members on 75 meters a couple times but both 40 and 75 seemed really long. I heard K1ECU being worked on 40 but Charlie was right down in the noise.

    Looking forward to next weekend!

  3. Impressive Job Guys – Great Multi Efforts!
WB2VVV operated Single Op Unassisted Low Power from Foster RI on 15/20/40/75 meters. 10 meters was stone dead.
Thanks W1XX for the needed RI multiplier!
My antennas and wood stove in my post and beam shack out back worked great, and I was able to hit a high of 76 degrees inside while it was 32 degrees outside – without any insulation as I did not want to cover the interior woodwork.

    180 QSOs, 71 Mults, Score = 25,560

Log was accepted after some effort as my copy of TR is old and only runs on a Win98 laptop (that boots up in DOS) with only a floppy drive to get the file out, that floppy then goes into a WinXP laptop with notepad to correct the header errors from the TR Post Process and move the file onto a thumb drive, and the thumb drive finally goes into my MacBook to get submitted via the Internet. The file work was a lot harder than breaking the pileup on the guy in Alaska… 73, Chris WB2VVV
