I ended up running Single Op Unlimited. Loved every bit. I was even able to get out of bed before dawn both mornings to check on Pacific and Asian possibilities on 160M. Sixty-two countries on 160 the first night! I hope some of you enjoyed the experience. Low bands were great. Virtually no noise. I was surprised to catch a great 15M opening to EU on Sunday. I never checked 10M so, if I didn’t know better I would say sunspots have returned. Amazing number of QRP stations. Even a couple on 160. Check out Q-Machine KI1G results on 3830. He is still in his prime! I don’t know how he does it. Congrats Rick. Heard briefly W1XX and KS1J.

A casual fun operation: QRV for an hour or two…watch URI basketball on TV …play tennis Sunday morning outdoors…sleep…operate some more. 60/40 S&P/run. Got on 160 near midnight 2nd night: fantastic! Like 20 meters. EU loud loud loud. From AN’s report, I guess I shudda been on Top Band 1st night also. Hope this bodes well for this coming weekend: CQ 160 SSB. Congrats John (AN) for staying in the chair for 30 hrs. Good going. And what can we say about our man Rick, KI1G: at the top of the heap so far on 3830Scores SO Unlimited HP. Heard KS1J runnin’ ’em up in the nosebleed section of 20. Found lotsa activity above 14,100 and 7100.
    for QRM free QSOs.

  3. I had a lot of fun too and have posted my modest score to 3830scores.com. 100% S&P, I achieved my usual goal of exceeding my prior year score (130 QSOs/32,000 pts). Next year I’ll have a nice round target of 250/100K to shoot for. Thanks to all of you who have helped me get my feet wet in contesting. I really enjoy it, and I’m not the least afraid to jump in the water anymore, especially with the nice easy exchange in this one. Now I just need an antenna that works on 160m.

    Running about 60 w on 160 and 40, and 7 watts on 20
That was fun even with only a little time around a busy weekend. Conditions seemed a lot better than CQ WW. K index at 0. As mentioned before, I got one of these chinese RF decks on Ebay for $40, less than the cost of a single RF transistor. I have to make a filter for each band, and I had intended to use it only on 160 and 6 meters, but after seeing it work in CQ 160 I started thinking about trying LP in this one. So I put together a 40m filter. I finished it only 20 minutes before the start and put it thru some cursory checks and finally connected the ant at 0010. 9A1A was on frequency and reflex took over, I worked him with the bug without even starting N1MM. In 45 minutes I put 24 in the log–that would never happen with qrp the first night. The amp was only putting out 60W or so, but that’s 11 db over qrp and it makes a huge difference. Sat. afternoon some IZ3 sent me “5”. I thought, if he can run I should be able to. I found a spot and called. On the 2nd call I was hit with multiple loud callers, all dead zero beat. I didn’t even know what was set up in the run macros, but I stumbled thru it and ran more than 20 stations in 10 minutes. What a rush. Especially when they are mults that I failed to get previously. 4U1ITU was one of them.

In the last hour I tried 160 and it seemed excellent too. I got 7 Eu & NP2J in about 20 minutes, much better than CQ 160. Wish I had tried it earlier.
I heard rather too much of my fellow members, at least 5 of you beat me out on an s&p. W1XX, K3IU, NC1CC, W1CTN and KS1J, thanks. I never heard W1DX or KI1G but congrats on those huge scores. Seems like the club will have a very respectable total?

  5. Only spent a few hours on the contest. Used the ALPHA DELTA DX-LB Antenna and the COMET CHV-5X Dipole with the FT-817ND QRP. Need more radio time….73 Bob W1IG
