Thanks, Mike. Actually, I’ll be leaving tomorrow.
On Saturday, I operated off and on from here at home and on Sunday I logged about 9 hours of BIC time at W1AN adding about 550 Qs to the log… all on 10 and 15… mostly 10. It got kinda wild there for a while. 🙂
From here at home, I logged 253 Qs for a claimed score of 160,080.
I probably will not get the 2012-2013 CTRI Champions leaderboard set up until after I get back late Sunday.
In the meantime, boys and girls, please post your results here!!

No equipment failure, no software failure and no major human failure made for a
fun weekend. My best hour was 162 on Saturday morning. Great to hear the 10
meter openings to Asia first thing in the morning. Working Europe on 40 meters
until 4 AM and on 10 meters until 6PM local time. Saturday seemed much better
as far as propagation, Sunday brought Arctic flutter on European signals most
of the day on 20 and 15 meters. Did some upgrades to the 10 meter antenna setup
before the contest that seemed to pay off.
Heard and worked W1DX, KS1J, K1SD, W1BYH and KA1GEU. Heard WE1H in a pile up but
other than that no other VT was ever heard.
How did the Meisters hold up?

Rick KI1G
Had some fun with this. Heard Rick and worked on 5 bands and heard/worked W1DX but only on one. I saw Ken get spotted but that was it for CTRI guys that I saw. Conditions actually seemed pretty good despite a disturbance in the force on Sunday. I think a great topic for a future meeting would be techniques for RTTY.
Also how to use the various tools for operating assisted such as Skimmer and RBN.

The plan for this contest was to put the RTTY Meister IIs and N1MM through a thorough test. We ran as a Multi-2 to keep the QSO rates highest testing the RM IIs while operators were available. Unfortunately there was a lot of empty chair time due to school commitments, family and other unexpected circumstances. I also suffered greatly, having pushed the limits of sleep deprivation Friday. So there was also at least 12 hours Saturday night with both chairs empty while I got some sleep to recharge the batteries. I run on old Nicads, now failing to take a full charge.
The RTTY Meister IIs operated flawlessly. Mike and I did have some networking issues. Some little idiosynchrocies from N1MM popped up before the contest when we didn’t have the network PC names and ip addresses set correctly. The only other issue was a loss of communication twice with one of the rotor controllers on a USB port. A reset was done easily by unplugging and reinserting the USB cable. At no time during the contest did we lose communication between the three RTTY Meisters that were on line. The macros played well and the decoding was fine. The AA6YQ profile was run by Pat in a second MMTTY window and worked fine with no trouble. There are some settings in N1MM that we need to look at to improve highlighting valid calls in some mixed copy that may help us.
Band conditions were excellent on Friday and Saturday with signals on Sunday being somewhat fluttery during the midday. There was a short period Sunday where conditions dropped off significantly. Conditions the last few hours were great and I was able to pick up several more mults on 40 near the end. Ten meters was hot both days until just after sunset and 15M was great starting up just before sunrise. We did not spend much time on 80 because the chairs were empty Saturday night and the conditions were so good on the higher bands Friday night.
Mike K1DM was over to help setup early in the week and was over before the start on Friday to finalize the Macros that Ken prepared. He was called away before the contest start. Pat and I operated a good part of Friday and Saturday. Ken K3IU and Ed W1PN put in a great effort. Ed was able to plug through a seemingly endless run of stations calling. Ed that was not punishment. That was a reward. Mike Visich, a new member candidate sponsored by Bob KB1LN, stopped by Saturday afternoon. I gave him the $5 inside/outside tour and he looked quite intrigued. I expect he will want to get his feet wet soon.
We worked Rick KI1G and Jim KS1G on several bands. I don’t recall any other CTRI members in the fray.

Since the tower is still not here, and the trees that used to hold up most of my antennas have been cut down to make room for it, I only have a 40m dipole left. So I ran this as single band (40m), high power, single op, assisted. Sorry I couldn’t drop down to 80 for you Rick. I worked K1IG, and W1BYH. I heard W1DX a few times, but never made it through. Judging from the reports and mluts that were stacking up, it looks like 10m was a pretty good band to work. 40m was really good Saturday afternoon and evening with plenty of Europeans to work. Late mornings to early afternoons were completely dead. I would guess because most ops were working on the higher bands. There were lots of signals Sunday afternoon, but print on most of them were difficult. I’m not sure if it was due to propagation or if there were just too many ops talking on top of each other. I couldn’t keep my eyes open after midnight on Saturday night so I had to turn in. If I had been able to stay up, I probably would have done much better. I woke up at 3AM Sunday to continue, but things had slowed down quite a bit by then.

Thanks to Rick, KI1G, I was finally able to get on RTTY. I’ve never operated high power at this QTH and haven’t even run the Titan at all for a few years. The HF2V is resonant on only a small sliver of the 75m phone band, so barefoot using the K3 ATU garnered the few 80m QSOs. All other bands the Titan was able to loaf along at 400-600 watts with the K3 at 10-15 watts drive.
Murphy visited Friday night. Troubleshooting finally indicated a bad L coax adapter. Rest of the test was OK equipment-wise.
Heard KI1G casually working JAs on 10m before the test started. Ten proved to be THE band. To quote a well known sage “there ain’t no meters like ten meters”. Heard Rick again later that night S&Ping on 20, moved up a few clicks and called CQ, he answered, and moved me to 10, another QSO, then to 15 where I lost him due to my stupidity. He said go to 21.055 and I promptly went to 21.050 and CQed away. NO JOY.
Fun test all around. Now I remember why I like RTTY so much.

James,
I was wondering where you went, looked back at your 20 meter freq and see you there either. No worries, got RI on all bands just took a bit longer. Forgot ot mention working Will on 10 meters, sleep deprivation will do that to you.
Glad to hear the Meisters held up, seems to me I had a similar networking issue with N1MM a few contests ago and was unable resolve it during the contest.
Hope all who played had some fun.

Rick
