Meeting starting times

Greetings,

     What’s the history behind starting our Saturday meetings at 11:00 A.M.?  I’m just looking for information, since I have not been around that long (still a new guy).  Thanks for the input.

    My short history doesn’t provide any help… Seems to me that meetings have always started at around 11AM.

  2. Hi Mike,

    Alittle history… Starting back in late 1990 even before the club was a club the meetings were held on Saturday mornings. Throughout the years it was brought up about changing the time to later in the afternoon or at night. Some of the comments agaist that was the fact that people didn’t want to drive at night during the winter months and another was that people could get home early enough to spend time with the family during the day.

    I know its hard seeing a lot of members come a long way to attend the meetings but we could never find a happy medium We even tried to have meetings up in the West Warwick area but found that only lasted a very short time. You may want to revisit that idea.

  3. Minutes from the Ocober 7, 2007 meeting indicate that the club felt that meeting earlier on Saturday was better than 1:00 PM. Club business was to be presented first, then lunch then a program.I believe the general consensus was that once the meeting was over we could head back and a) participate in any weekend contests that might be going on or 2) use the remainder of the day to do the usual weekend errands. I am not sure if the schedule of the Crandall House had anything to do with it. Note that at that time we were meeting every other month.

    Thanks for the insight and history. If it were up to me, I’d say start the meeting at 9:00 am, get it over with, and then head home. However, on a snowy Saturday morning, that might not be the best scenario. Some people like to sleep a bit longer on Saturday, since it’s the only day during the week they can do that. Some of us retired folks (K3IU is definitely not in this group) don’t roll out of bed most mornings until the dew has dried on the pumpkins.
    I don’t plan on suggesting any major changes right now. I’d like to get a feel for how those who do attend the meetings would like it to be. Those who don’t attend certainly have an opinion, but it doesn’t carry the same weight as the opinions of the meeting faithful.
