Important N1MM version upgrade

On Tuesday afternoon the availability of N1MM Logger v12.05.03 was announced with “Important bug-fix for multi ops in WPX CW” in the Subj Line.

Pete Smith, N4ZR, adds the following…

“This version incorporates a bug fix to prevent a database (“3022″) error
when editing the first QSO on a computer that is in a networked-computer
configuration. This could be disconcerting if it happened at the start
of this weekend’s WPX CW. We’re sending e-mail to all the multi-op and
networked-computer single-op users we are aware of, but will probably
miss some, so be advised.

Otherwise, this release involves only minor bug-fixes, which should be
unobtrusive.

73,
The N1MM Logger Team”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Steve London, N2IC, added this in an email…
“It is actually much worse than this !!
It can happen if you edit or quick edit any QSO – the error will appear on EVERY
other computer in the network.
Here is e-mail I sent out to a number of networked-computer users. Please feel
free to pass it on:
—————————————————–
If you are planning on using N1MM Logger for 2012 WPX CW, it is very important
that you use version 12.05.03, which can be downloaded from the N1MM Logger web
site (www.n1mm.com).
A serious problem was recently found that causes error message 3022 to be
displayed on all networked computers if a QSO is edited with the “Quick Edit” or
“Edit QSO” feature. This is fixed in version 12.05.03.
In addition, a new feature was recently added that removes all QSO’s from a log.
This is very useful for removing QSO’s that were made as “practice” before the
start of a contest.
– Added WIPELOG text command and confirmation window. Entering “WIPELOG” in the
Entry Window callsign field will remove all QSO’s from the currently active log
on the local computer. To clear all QSO’s on all computers in a
networked-computer configuration, type WIPELOG on each computer.
Please forward this message to others who may be using N1MM Logger in a multi-op
(networked-computer) configuration in WPX CW.
Thanks and 73,
Steve, N2IC”
Elecraft K3 Information for NP3U
For the several of us guys owning Elecraft K3s and those planning on going to NP3U in February, here is a link to a pretty “Nifty” resource. This link takes you to the web site of a company NOT affiliated with Elecraft who has published a compact K3 Mini-manual. I have seen one but have not yet actually studied one; however, it has gotten rave reviews on the Elecraft reflector. It is 4.5″ x 8″ with 24 laminated pages of detailed instrtuctions and helpful information. I am planning to buy one to use as a reference in developing a training cirriculum for the K3 in our lead up to NP3U. I have no financial relationship with Elecraft or the Nifty! Accessories™ Company. Well… over the years I’ve spent a lot of money at Elecraft, but you know what I mean. 🙂
2012 NEQP Results
Since I was delinquent in posting this repository for the NEQP Results and others have already posted results in another posting, please post results in the NEQP and Special Event posting below.
I guess this falls into the category of being “overtaken by events.”
The following was posted on the CWOps Reflector this morning, and probably others as well…
It is with great sadness that I pass along the news that John Thompson,
W1BIH (aka PJ9JT) became a Silent Key on March 8. John was an ardent
contester and DXer (390 confirmed), a member of the CQ Contest Hall of Fame
(number 14) and an ardent CW operator.
John was a member of YCCC, FOC, Connecticut Wireless Association and QCWA.
Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.
While John was not a member of CWops, I’m sure he would have been if he
could still send CW. He had a partial stroke in 2008 that left his right
side pretty much useless.
CTRI Champions Leaderboard 10 Mar 2012
Here is the latest Leaderboard update which includes all of the info I have received as of this morning. One thing new to note is that if you scroll to the extreme right end of the rows, you will see a total reported club score for each contest. I have reports from 5 stations for the ARRL DX SSB contest.
Hopefully, if you click on this link, you will be led to the leaderboard which you can download to your maching and critically analyze the results.
Don’t know why I can’t make this work with just one click, so just keep clicking on the link that shows up until it gives you the opportunity to save it.
N1MM Software Topics
I saw this email on the N1MM reflector and recalled that there was some confusion about LOGTHENPOP & LOGTHENGRAB during the run up to CQWPX RTTY a couple weeks ago. The first email was cut from one from Rick Ellison, N2AMG, the digital programmer of N1MM, in response to a query on the reflector.
This should clarify as explained by the guy who wrote it…
Ken
“Log then pop allows more control as it allows the operator click on calls
that they see in the screen and stack them on the bandmap to work in
succession qfterwards(sic)…
Log then grab instead of using the bandmap just grabs the next available
call from the grab window on the Digital window. Sometimes you might be
grabbing a garbage callsign as some calls do not decode correctly and still
get placed in the grab window. So the operator needs to be aware of the call
that is being grabbed..
Thank you for that elucidation, Ken. I suspected as much from reading the manual’s description of where the “grabbed” calls came from, but with  no direct experience I couldn’t swear to it.
BTW, in the little time I spent working 80M this weekend I used ESM, and found it very helpful as long as I didn’t screw up the sequence by hitting SPACE too early. I just need to better train my brain and hand to the motions.
Gang,
Let’s include Rick in these discussions so he can stay up to speed as he learns N1MM Logger.  Does someone want to volunteer to put these e-mails on the Web site so we know where they are? Also, we need to start documenting all the little things we learn about the Logger during contests so we know where all the tricks are stored.
We had trouble this CW weekend with the program freezing on the Windows-7 computer that ran the Yaesu 1000MP or the side of the room where Ken’s K3 was used during the RTTY WPX weekend.  I found info on the FAQ (I think) for N1MM about how to install the logger on Windows 7 computers.  I didn’t see anything that looked unusual (make sure you’re Administrator when you install the software), but I do not have a Windows-7 machine.
I’ll be in contact via e-mail only through Thursday.
I have seen something somewhere in the last couple of weeks saying that Win7 problems, assuming that N1MM Logger was installed correctly, is probably caused bu RFI. I can’t imagine how RFI would cause problems with the software, but that is what was reported. It was recommended that ALL equipment have chassis’ connected together and to the station ground. It was NOT reported that this cured the problem with crashes.
The special installation instructions for N1MM on a Win7 machine are mainly about “where” to install it because of the Win7 “security” setup that objects to a program writing to a file in the \Program Files folder where N1MM (and virtually everything else) used to be installed. The default installation folder is now in \N1MM Logger folder. Also as Mike says, the installation should be made by right clicking on the installation file and selecting “Run as Administrator.”
Hi Guys,
I did not experience any major issues with N1MM this weekend, only a minor
annoyance on the computer connected to the FT-1000, every time I would click
on a spot to go work it, the software would put the rig in dual receive mode
which gives the headphone audio a whole new sound. Probably just a setting
that  I need to change somewhere, but finding the somewhere is the hard
part. I did not use ESM mode, just programmed the F-Keys as I have always
used them in Writelog.
Other than that, the weekend started out on record pace and stayed so until
06Z on Sunday when my K3 shut off, the FT-1000 did not hear any signals and
there was an alarm that I have never heard before that was beeping away in
the shack. Needless to say that after being up and on the rig for 30 hours
prior to all this, some mental chaos ensued.
Turns out that the alarm was an overvoltage alarm on my 12V power supply and
it had turned off the DC output. No 12V = no K3 and none of my other
switching widgets were working. I do not have a back up power supply and am
still off the air. Moral of this story is to know your stations Achilles
heel. Once I decide on what to replace the power supply with, I will be
getting two.
Hope everyone had fun….
2012 CQ WPX RTTY Results
Sorry I’m late in getting this posted. If I say that I got distracted, you older folks out there will understand.  🙂 .
Please post your results here by adding comments to this posting. Some of you have already sent emails on the CTRICG Yahoo reflector and I can grab them OK.  Thanks. When it looks like I’ve got all the results, I’ll update the Champions Leaderboard spreadsheet and post it here.
