We missed several 6 sections, AK, NT, NE and NNY. No EU runs. Noise on 2nd day thru Saturday eve. Lost internet days ago so no W1DX packet cluster available to outside. But was able to use cell service for RBN which worked well. Activity seemed down and no runs to EU.

Nice to have John W1XX and Mike K1DM over.

Had good fun for a few hours with focus on the sweep. Conditions were good. Only
missed YT after an hour of trying to break thru the VY1CO pile up. The station is slowly getting back into shape. Working on beverages now that leaves are down and doing a cleanup of the shack. Much to do. Looks like W1XX and NG1M put in a good showing.

Comments:

John W1XX scouted for potential sites on state and county lines and prepared the
route and stops for our mobile operation. In addition to several good sites and
backups he was able to locate one state line we could straddle and include three
counties. The prior week he secured permission from the property owner for
access. At this site and the others a light weight fiberglass telescopic mast on
a tripod with a 40M inverted Vee at 13M was quickly set up for use. It was
easily tuned for 20M with the K3 internal tuner.

For operation in Boston SUFMA, our white work van with roof racks and orange
traffic cones were setup on a side street. Our tripod for the antenna was setup
over an open manhole. We all had our hardhats, but the out of state
“ham” plates gave us away allowing only an hour or so operation before
we were chased.

Mike K1DM was CW operator and chief of tech support. We all welcomed the comaraderie and felt secure after having been vaccinated. Happy full faces please. Need normalcy ASAP! Good to see the CTRI participation.

We did most of our operation on 40M.

Counties and Qs
BRIMA 31
BRIRI 69
KENRI 77
PLYMA 128
PRORI 29
SUFMA 24
WINCT 43

NE Counties working us (21) were minimal due to band and operation times.

Mostly S&P for a part time operation. All the antennas survived the last few storms.
KI1G tops so far in SO Unlimited HP!

Almost missed contest. Checked on Friday night for the schedule. There was quite a bit of activity and enhancement on the upper bands. Not much e-skip on 6M, however.

Fun contest. Very little on 10/15M but plenty of activity to enjoy. Good to see NG1-Mike Mike active! Anyone use FT8?
Need to study the “two break rule” which limits off time to two minimum 30 minute periods. Is it too restrictive? I can see where this would penalize those who can’t dedicate full weekends. Maybe topic for discussion at next meeting.

Conditions were disappointing. The band was a little noisy and signals were down quite a bit from the CW contest a week ago. This required many repeats for fills. Goal was to equal last years score. Barely made it. Good to see the club activity.

Comments:
I ended up running Single Op Unlimited. Loved every bit. I was even able to get out of bed before dawn both mornings to check on Pacific and Asian possibilities on 160M. Sixty-two countries on 160 the first night! I hope some of you enjoyed the experience. Low bands were great. Virtually no noise. I was surprised to catch a great 15M opening to EU on Sunday. I never checked 10M so, if I didn’t know better I would say sunspots have returned. Amazing number of QRP stations. Even a couple on 160. Check out Q-Machine KI1G results on 3830. He is still in his prime! I don’t know how he does it. Congrats Rick. Heard briefly W1XX and KS1J.

Russian Naval Cruiser on 14246.00 this morning. Missiles loaded?

I worked the Russian Naval Cruiser AURORA this morning on 20M. Call is RF1A/MM. Interesting. Supposedly a museum ship in tow for repairs. Anybody remember amateur radio operating on a US Navy vessel during routine sea missions? Probably a no-no for Russia as well. So I had to google the AURORA. to see what was up. “Some” of our club members may want to pass on making contact, in any case.
