NPOTA Activation in CT

CQWWDX multi operation @ W1AN the last weekend of this month. NPOTA can be another weekend. (my personal opinion) K1DM

Gents,

We have talked about doing another NPS Centennial activation on a weekend and at 8-Mile Nat’l Park in CT (not mutually inclusive).

Do we want to go ahead with another NPOTA effort or focus on CQWW SSB at W1AN or do both!?

Hi James,

I just returned from Yellowstone Park where my neighbor, Buddy K1CYQ and I activated that park for several days. We made over 500 QSOs.

We were thinking about activating Roger Williams Memorial National Park, possibly this week. Buddy has a PAC-12 antenna and KX-3 radio and can operate from his car very easily.

John, W1XX said that you have the head ranger’s name and phone number. Should I call to make arrangements beforehand?

Thanks, Bob W1YRC

Gentlemen,

To accommodate our weekend warriors, let’s try for any time that works for most this weekend or next. We had already talked about the weekend of the 22nd (the weekend before CQWWDX SSB).

Roger Williams is OK; but Dr. Mike will have to call the Assistant Superintendent of the Roger Williams Memorial National Park. Which is not a bad thing; she was really pleasant and sounded very reasonable. But she might need a form checked off.

8 mile river sounds equally doable. Probably a lot less hassle, eh.

All: 8 mile river = WR15…I missed spotting this one and it looks like a pretty good bet at 27/928 activations/QSOs…sounds like a lot but pretty much near the bottom of the list of activations. When? — John, W1XX

I will check Eight-mile river in the morning. It’s very near my QTH (and the QTH of W1DX/R. I will look specifically near the intersection of the river and Route 82. All we need is a wide spot in the road on the river bank! K1DM

CQWW SSB DX Contest Announcement and Results

Posted for W1XX

CQ DX SSB Multi Effort:  October 28 -30

John, W1AN, has often graciously opened up his station for a multi-2 effort with a simple:  “The station will be open.”  A few times the response has been great, but more often there has been a lack of operators to keep the two seats filled for the majority of time.

In talking to John recently, I suggested that I try to spearhead a concerted effort to give the upcoming CQWW SSB DX Contest a real go… dates the last weekend of October.  Normally I would do a single band effort from home in this one on either 80 or 40 meters.  But if we can get enough ops together for this one, I would like to sign up.  Will you join me?

This is an SSB working DX Test.  We need experienced ops as well as those who wish to improve their operating skills. Come one, come all.

John has overnight accommodations if you choose. And it would not surprise me if W1NAN does her usual in the culinary department.

Please let me know your intentions in a general time frame covering:  Friday evening and wee hours, Saturday daytime and wee hours, and Sunday daytime to close.   E-mail me at w1xx AT cox DOT net; copy to w1an AT dxusa DOT net.

CTRI always has a good time when we get together for a group effort.  Let’s go for a big score!  73! – John, W1XX                                                                      10/17/2016

Gentlemen,

The results of our first foray into the wacky world of NPOTA activations at Roger Williams National Memorial NM22 was a huuuuuge success.

I’ve merged the logs from my laptop (used until battery exhaustion) and John AN’s into one N1MM log.

I uploaded 225 QSOs into LoTW today and instantly had 147 matches. Answered one paper QSL request. Future log uploads should be a snap (as in “instant AND immediate!”).

2016 CQWW RTTY Results

Since I am the first one here with results, guess I’ll generate the posting to collect the results from club members. I was surprised when I saw my BIC time ‘cuz it didn’t seem as long as the logging program says. Anyway… here are my results. Only other club member worked was W1DX on 2 bands.

Please post your results here and don’t forget to submit your score before the deadline!

Activating Roger Williams National Memorial – NM 22 for NPOTA

To date this site has been activated 5 times for a recorded 254 QSOs.  W1XX, K1DM, and W1AN are looking at activating the site on Thursday, 29 September.  It looks like we will be on the air around 10:00 AM for several hours.  We will probably finish before sunset.  Since we will only have one antenna – a trapped vertical attached to the trailer hitch on my van – it will most likely be a FONE effort, which seems to be the most popular mode as far as I can determine.

If you have some free time that day, you are welcome to join in the fun.  We’ll attempt to answer anyone who gives us a call (if we hear you).  Club members are also welcome to join us on site and operate!

More to follow as the plans get set in concrete (or is it jello?)

Mike, K1DM

CTRI Breakfast Meeting

Sorry I couldn’t make it. Who attended? Besides elections was there anything else of import discussed?
I hope everyone is gearing up for CQWW RTTY this weekend.

Meeting & Elections are scheduled for Saturday 17 Sept at 1000 (that’s 10 AM for those with a USAF background)

I have reserved a table for 12. Hopefully we can get that room in the back like last time.

Please let me know who will be attending so I can update the reservation if need be. See you there, Mike

Elecraft K3S

In the event anyone in the club is in the market for a brand new in-th-box Elecraft K3S transceiver, this may interest you.  I am in the process of settling an insurance claim re lightning damage that will require my sending  $$$ to recover depreciation.  I expect to order the new Elecraft K3S 100 watt radio that contesters prefer.I will then sell it at a significantly DISCOUNTED price. The list price I will pay off the internet will be in the neighborhood of $3800. When buying an Elecraft you select items a la carte off the menu — from microphone choice to filters.  I have selected what will appeal to most…but can  adapt to YOUR choices.  Please forward this to anyone you think might be interested.  I also intend to do the same with a brand new Kenwood TS-2000 from HRO.
