Interesting. Anyone have a recollection of this talk/presentation to the HCRA? Anyone have a thought on what we might want to do, if anything? Outreach to new contesters?

Hi,
Around 8 to 10 years ago the CTRI group came out and gave a talk at the Hampden County Radio Assn meeting.
I’m wondering if you or someone in the club would be interested in doing so again?
The HCRA meets the first Friday of each month excluding July and August. I’m starting to fill the 2017 meeting dates and currently have open January and March – June.
The HCRA meets the first Friday of every month at Holyoke Hospital at 7:30 pm. The web site is: www.hcra.org and we’re on Facebook too. We offer to take our guest speaker out to dinner right before the meeting too.
Would you guys be interested in coming out and speaking and maybe showing some slides or video or you all in action?
We have a diverse group of hams in the club and usually average 40 – 50 at each meeting. Many chase DX, contest, do digital and much more.
Please let me know if you’d be interested and what month would work for you.
Thank you and 73,
Larry, W1AST

Greetings all:
K1CYQ and I activated Roger Williams Monument, NM22 today. Other than four bus loads of middle schoolers from Killingly, CT dropping in unannounced for an hour at lunch time, we had no problems at all, if you don’t count the sirens, motorcycles, Acela train horn and other traffic. Headphones are useful. The two rangers on duty didn’t require any permits and were happy to see us.
From 12:30 to 2:45, we made 4 contacts on 40 and 49 on 20, all SSB. Tried CW on 20 with no replies. Band condx were fair to good. Radio was IC-7300 running 100 watts, battery powered to a
PAC-12 antenna. There were no ropes or wires in the trees, stakes in the ground or generators running. I learned that these are the things that the rangers aren’t fond of. We made contacts with
Washington, many southwestern states, many mid western and southern states and a few short skip nearby. For DX, we logged VE and CU3. We will positively return in a few weeks. At least a dozen
stations said that we had given them a new one, so Roger Williams Monument must still be somewhat needed, even now in the tenth month. Records state that there have only been seven activations with 529 contacts to this date. There’s room for lots more.
I have learned that the Providence EMA is planning to activate NM22 on November 12th. We will likely do another activation before that date.
73, Bob W1YRC

Gentlemen,
To accommodate our weekend warriors, let’s try for any time that works for most this weekend or next. We had already talked about the weekend of the 22nd (the weekend before CQWWDX SSB).
Roger Williams is OK; but Dr. Mike will have to call the Assistant Superintendent of the Roger Williams Memorial National Park. Which is not a bad thing; she was really pleasant and sounded very reasonable. But she might need a form checked off.
8 mile river sounds equally doable. Probably a lot less hassle, eh.

CQ DX SSB Multi Effort: October 28 -30
John, W1AN, has often graciously opened up his station for a multi-2 effort with a simple: “The station will be open.” A few times the response has been great, but more often there has been a lack of operators to keep the two seats filled for the majority of time.
In talking to John recently, I suggested that I try to spearhead a concerted effort to give the upcoming CQWW SSB DX Contest a real go… dates the last weekend of October. Normally I would do a single band effort from home in this one on either 80 or 40 meters. But if we can get enough ops together for this one, I would like to sign up. Will you join me?
This is an SSB working DX Test. We need experienced ops as well as those who wish to improve their operating skills. Come one, come all.
John has overnight accommodations if you choose. And it would not surprise me if W1NAN does her usual in the culinary department.
Please let me know your intentions in a general time frame covering: Friday evening and wee hours, Saturday daytime and wee hours, and Sunday daytime to close. E-mail me at w1xx AT cox DOT net; copy to w1an AT dxusa DOT net.

Gentlemen,
The results of our first foray into the wacky world of NPOTA activations at Roger Williams National Memorial NM22 was a huuuuuge success.
I’ve merged the logs from my laptop (used until battery exhaustion) and John AN’s into one N1MM log.
I uploaded 225 QSOs into LoTW today and instantly had 147 matches. Answered one paper QSL request. Future log uploads should be a snap (as in “instant AND immediate!”).

To date this site has been activated 5 times for a recorded 254 QSOs. W1XX, K1DM, and W1AN are looking at activating the site on Thursday, 29 September. It looks like we will be on the air around 10:00 AM for several hours. We will probably finish before sunset. Since we will only have one antenna – a trapped vertical attached to the trailer hitch on my van – it will most likely be a FONE effort, which seems to be the most popular mode as far as I can determine.
If you have some free time that day, you are welcome to join in the fun. We’ll attempt to answer anyone who gives us a call (if we hear you). Club members are also welcome to join us on site and operate!
More to follow as the plans get set in concrete (or is it jello?)
