2019 SSCW Results @ K3IU [B 56 RI]

Not a huge effort here but that is becoming the norm for me. My BIC time was about 8 hours and I operated HP unassisted. My 80 M results reinforce my need to get my 80 dipole back up in the air. Not a clean sweep this year.

It is still my favorite contest. 73, Ken K3IU

    Comments:
After 2 1/2 hours at the start, I suffered from K3IU BIC syndrome. Comes with age I guess. Thus, an expected full effort turned into a casual 9 hour operation of many short bursts OTA interspersed with the Patriot’s loss, fixing the 80M 4SQ in the woods, and catching up with recorded TV shows. But it reduces drag on Sunday and fun while QRV.

Picked up VI, PR and NL early…found PAC on 15 on Sunday, while AK called in on 20 and worked Gerry, VY1AAA also on 20, but missed a bunch of usual easy ones. Almost missed ME and NLI. Skip was long. RI seemed well represented.

Will give SS Phone the usual full effort with help from K1XA.

I ended up having a busy family weekend and so I would just get a few minutes and take what came rather than hop bands looking for mults. I had 100 ish watts on 40 & 20 with the amp project working, but no filter for 80 so only 7 watts there yet everybody seemed to hear me. Not such good advice to look at 160, I forgot nobody goes there in SS :). I checked 15 before the start and decided to punt it after getting a 339 report from KY7M. THe best though was the last half hour, where I was fresh and ran 34 q’s on 7039, including Bill, thanks!

Antenna mystique: I was supposed to hook various wires back up while cleaning the yard up Sat. from the windstorm. One of these was the long counterpoise to use on 80. I did well on 80 with semi qrp, and the antenna tuned up fine. Next day I thought to look, and sure enough, I never connected the wire. The “counterpoise” was 10 ft long, all in the basement. so much for…theory? superstition?
