G11 SDR to 100 watt homebrew brick amp, 66′ doublet at 50′, inv L with 16 radials for 160

First, Charlie K1ECU and I did NOT coordinate our scores :). This was my first WW with 100 or so watts on most bands, and it was kind of pasted together–part science experiment (can the amp take it?), part pursuing countries on 160, generally spending too much time on weak signals, trying to run (I couldn’t), and sometimes getting a good cw rush when I got heard and the rate was high. The amp only got lukewarm, no fan needed, and nothing blew up. Signals were very loud on 40 and 20. As usual, the day after I wonder why I didn’t make better use of the spots? (As Charlie did!) I did get a bit of the 10 meter opening–my 3 q’s were zone 35 & 38 and a local, despite no solar flux and a mediocre wire. Another surprise was writing HB9AMO on my pad for a weak call mixed up in the FT8 segment, but really thinking it was a “5” not H, and what do you know…it was, and the B was a U. Summary, it was a lot more fun than 5 watts even if I’m way down in the middle of the results. — Dave K1SX
