Tower Parts and Accessories for sale

Hello all.  As you may know, I’m selling my towers and accessories.  All radios and amps have been sold.  These parts that I have listed MUST GO.  They are all listed on eham.net, but wanted to give the club members a chance to get in the action.  You have all worked on my towers, and know what kind of condition they are in.  Below is a pasted copy of my ads, including a couple items that are not on eham.

Selling a HyGain TH5 Triband antenna. No abuse, in excellent condition. Asking $350 for it. Sells for $699.95 new. No rust, no cracks, no missing parts. Comes with the standard HyGain mast mount clamp. If you would like pictures of this item, please feel free to email me.

Selling 5 1/2 sections of Rohn 45 tower. Asking $200 for each section. Also I have a BPL 45G Top Plate which I am asking $125. Lists for $250 new. Also have the R-BPC 45G base plate, asking $75. Pictures available upon request.

3 Rohn 25G tower sections with a tilt over base plate.  No bends, slides right together. Asking $75 per section.

I also have 2 Ameritron Antenna switches (Remote Coax Switch).  $75 each, or $150 for the pair.  They run $159.99 New from ameritron.

Astron RS-35A power supply.  Lists for $239.99 New, but asking $100 for any of the club members.

Alpha Spid Rotator.  You can look this rotator up on alphaspid.com  I paid $600 for this rotator.  I’m asking $300 for it.  Needs a new plastic cap from when the top section of the tower decided to shorten the length of the gin pole hihi.  If you buy this rotator, I have all the rotor cable to go with it.  Come with the control box and control mouse to control it.

That’s all I guess.  Contact me if you’re interested.

Carlos’ 2 Element 40m Beam

Jay and I took a 4 hour round trip drive to Salem, NH to pick up Carlos’ “NEW” 2 Element 40m beam.  At HRO, they advised us to check the parts list and the boxes to make sure all the parts were there.  So we did.  GUESS WHAT?!?!  The antenna was USED, missing ALL the X-Hats, parts of the tubing for the elements, dinged, scratched and dented.  HRO is shipping another one from California to their Salem store, and it looks like I’m going to have to take another ride to pick it up, along with another $50 in gas.  Good news is Carlos bought 2 new rotators that shipped out at the beginning of the week, and should be installed by the time we get there.

I REALLY NEED A VACATION.

NP3U (Jan 12th 2013)

InsolatorTalked to Carlos on the phone this afternoon. I got some answers to some of our questions.

Internet: Same as we used last time: However WP4Z has and internet company with a tower with a bunch of anteenas on it that we can access via a 2m link. I guess he (WP4Z) uses it that way for his station. Carlos will talk to him. Lets plan on bringing the gear down to set it up.

Anteena update: They did get the beams up but found the rotors did not work so he has ordered two new ones and they (Carlos & his friends) will have them installed.

Would Like: Cables for the ICE filters  that connect to the radios to make them swicth freq together?

A center insolator for the 80M Delta loop you can take a look at what he means at http://www.alphadeltacom.com/pg11.html Maybe someone has something like this in thier junk box.

I asked him again to send a list of wants and needs via email.

I was going to have a meeting of the group that is going next weekend but we’ll have to put it off until the weekend of the 26 or 27th if you think that will work. If not I can cancel what I need to do next weekend.

Ok guys I haven’t heard from 1 person yet about flight information.  Jay and I have been checking flights everyday since the meeting.  Prices are ranging from $280-$450.  Really the best bang for your buck is JetBlue out of Boston.  Even though the cost is a little more ($370 pp/taxes) you fly in comfort, first checked bag is FREE, you are allowed a carry-on and a personal item (back pack), and everyone flies in “first class”.  All seats have their own “free” tv to watch, and non-stop flights to and from.  This is the flight we are looking at right now:

WAE rtty Contest

A Contester is born.  Jay KB1LCQ jumped right into the fire during the WAE rtty contest this past weekend.  Jay started off the contest working sations on 40m for a few hours.  The next day I sat him in the chair and put him on 20m, where he stayed most of the day.  As you can see by the score and contacts per band, he did pretty good for the first time out.  I have to say that over 75% of the contacts made, he was in the running mode, and experienced many pile ups.

NP3U 2013

It was great to see everyone at the meeting on Saturday.  First I would like to welcome Jay KB1LCQ to the club.  Now on to NP3U.  I have the following members on the list of operators: Ken K3IU, John W1AN, Jamie K1SG, Matt WE1H, Jay KB1LCQ, Bill N1HRA, Mike K1DM, and Ed W1PN.  Ken K3IU will be making contact with Carlos soon.  Untill we hear back from Ken confirming that the station will be available, I suggest no one purchase their tickets.  Jay and I have been looking at flight costs this evening and found this flight info.  This is a one stop flight with your layover in Washington of less than 45 minutes.  Price of this flight per person is $279.40 (taxes and fees included).  Plan on an extra $25 each way checked baggage.  This is the best price found as of yet.  All other other flights had layovers of 4-6 hours and much more expensive.  Again if anyone else finds anything, please post it here.  As stated at the meeting I would like to hear back from all team members attending by Saturday the 17th the LATEST.

Ken K3IU: Please try and make contact with Carlos as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Bill N1HRA

MMTTY Question

Back a few years ago MMTTY had a built in CW decoder the used the same window as the RTTY window. While using the new version it looks like they took it out or I just don’t know where to look. Can someone tell me if it is still in the program or was it removed.

Thanks

Bill

NP3U

Hello everyone

I just wanted to see if I could get some discussion going on who is going to PR this Feb. I would like to have this put on the agenda for Nov meeting. I guess a couple question can be asked here:

Has anyone been in contact with Carlo’s?

Is there a list of things that certain people are bringing or think we should bring?

Who is committed on going? (a minimum of 4 people are needed) I will be going and I have a friend that will be joining the club at the next meeting and he would love to go. He’s really new to Ham Radio and wants to learn.

For those of you that are committed on going, you should continue to do research on flights. The best way to do this is to find the cheapest flight, and appoint someone to book everyone at the same time. This will make sure Carlo’s only makes one trip to the airport.

Please let me know if you are committed on going. It would be nice if you got back to me before the meeting via my email address: billc230@nullverizon.net

Thanks and good luck to all in the CQWWDX Contest

About CTRI Contest Group

The CTRI Contest Group is an ARRL affiliated club. When the club was first started it was located in southeastern Connecticut and southern Rhode Island however over the years it has gained members from all over New England. As our name implies, we are specifically interested in contesting.

The club was started back in 1992 as a project to setup a station where club members and other amateurs from around the area could go and operate. Being that the major players in the group were all into contesting, the station started to take shape as just that, a place to contest from, along with an open door policy for anyone that needed a place to operate during the contests, or just to work some DX.  After an eight-year run and many multi operator operations, and many new people introduced to contesting, the CTRI club station was dismantled in the year 2000. We will always be thankful to Andy KA1VMG for letting us use his property. In the eight years the club station was operating, many members bought homes and setup stations of their own. CTRI is still growing to this day and still has a open door policy at many of it’s members stations. Many members put on Multi operations from the homes and invite all interested to come join the fun.

We have sponsored a large group of students at the Dunn’s Corners Elementary School in Westerly R.I. in the SAREX program. This class which was run by Ken Chaffee, WA1QXR, ran for seven years ending in 2003. The CTRI Contest Group also runs VE test sessions headed by Joe Natale, K1JN. We also provide an annual subscription to QST magazine to a different local area school or library each year. Past schools have been: Wheeler High School in North Stonington, CT. Block Island school on New Shoreham, The Westerly library in Westerly, RI, and Cross Mills Public Library in Charlestown RI.

The Biggest project the group took on was the “2002 Grenada Computer project” and with the help of the YCCC Membership we were able to ship 12 complete computer systems and more than enough computer gear to make up another 12 systems which the kids will build themselves.
The CTRI Contest Group sponsors a number of other things, too. We provide the plaques for a number of contests throughout the contest year. Some of the past plaques were for the Rhode Island section winner of the New England States QSO Party, the CQ Worldwide DX SSB and CQ Worldwide DX CW contests in the World Single Operator, Unlimited category. Back in (2004-2005) CTRI added couple of ARRL contests to the list and continues to support many contest Plaques.

CTRI members have made the trip to DX locations to operate during some of the big four contests, CQWW DX Phone, CQWW WPX Phone. These trips started with Grenada in 2002 operating as J3A, Bermuda in 2002 as VP9I and in 2004 operating as NP3U at the “Mi Casita” Contest Station in Puerto Rico. Member also headed back to Bermuda in the fall of 2005 to operate during the CQWW WPX Phone contest once again using the Call VP9I. In 2007 eight members traveled back to Puerto Rico for the CQWW WPX Phone operating once again at the “Mi Casita” contest station of Carlos WP4U in a Multi-2 operations that ended up with the guys putting over 6000 Q’s in the log and over 23 Million points. In the year 2008 members traveled back to Puerto Rico to operate in the CQWW WPX RTTY where they beat last years record by over 7 million points. The group put just under 15 million points in the log with 14,905,00 points and holds to this day the World record and North American record.

If you have any questions regarding the CTRI Contest Group operations and/or membership please contact any of the officers or drop a general e-mail to wa1rr
