FREE TOWER as in F.R.E.E.

W1CTN will be going dark in anticipation of a retirement move.

It’s still up. Some of the club members extended it to it’s present height.

Come and take it down, just don’t get hurt (or it’s a quick burial in the marsh), and it’s yours.

I have been texting Carlos over the last couple of days. He and his wife are doing fine.

The antenna farm was completely destroyed.

All 8 towers and associated antennas are gone.

He will be running “under radio silence” for awhile.

With the present conditions on KP4, ham radio is probably his last concern.

I hope to work many CTRI members this weekend. Look for me at the high end of the bands 80-10 meters…away from the riff-raff !

I haven’t decided to do it LP or HP yet.

GL and Happy New Year to all.

CQ ww 160 SSB Contest

You can really tell we are on the other side of the cycle with the decrease of the DX stations participating in this contest.

I have always felt that this contest should be held in late December or January. By February the peak for 160 has passed.

Here’s my score:

RTTY/CW INTERFACE QUESTION

To all…
Radio Ansonia needs to upgrade its RTTY/CW interface. I presently use a W3YY unit.

Presently our RTTY/CW interface is serial port driven. I purchased a serial to USB converter, but it doesn’t work for some reason.

I use the same serial to USB converter for rig control and it works fine, but NG on RTTY/CW.

So I would like to find a RTTY/CW interface that uses USB and retire the old technology.

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. I was in North Carolina over the Thanksgiving holiday and the following week looking for property for Radio Ansonia South.

K1C Activated

To all:

K1C was briefly active tonight on 40 phone. QRN was terrible at Radio Ansonia, but I worked 38 stations in less than 20 minutes. Many others in the noise. I might have to erect a 40 meter Beverage if the QRN keeps up.

CTRI 20 ANNIV. S/E -May 1 – May 15

To all…

First, Happy New Year…I hope everyone has has a healthy and happy 2012.

Second, before the week is out I should have confirmation that the first special event callsign has been granted, K1C.

I used the KILO prefix since I only received one response as to what prefix block we wanted to use.

When the confirmation arrives I will post the application website and a copy of my application. We just need to all follow the same format I used so our dates and info are correct.

More info to come

GIN POLE NEEDED ASAP

Radio Ansonia calling…

The gin pole at W1AN’s is unfortunately up at 120′ and not readily available. So I would like to know if anyone has one I can borrow for this weekend.

Pat NG1G is travelng to Radio Ansonia located at the “western frontier of the CTRI empire” on Sunday to help me do some antenna/tower work and without a gin pole only 1/2 the work can be done.

I’m willing to drive to get it either Friday night or Saturday morning and will return it next weekend.

Drop me an email or call 203-735-9725 if you can lend me one.

Prefix for Special Event

To all,

Sorry I have been a bit tardy with my work on the CTRI 20th Anniversary Special Event but with the recent holiday and a death in the family the week before Thansgiving I have been away from the hobby.

The Special Event would center around the 2013 NEQP held on May 4th and 5th, but we have a 15 day window of operation so I would suggest we get the 1 x 1 callsigns for the period of May 1 thru May 15.

At W1XX’s we discussed the Special Event but we did not discuss what prefix block ie: K, N or W we would like to use for our 1 x 1 S/E callsigns.

It’s my opinion that a single prefix block would make it more uniform for the stations looking for us but whatever the group would like to do is fine with me.

I prefer the “K” prefix as I find KILO is the one that cuts thru the QRM the best…or it could just be my ears !

We can apply for any prefix block or suffix with exception of an “X” suffix (sorry John).

As I stated during the meeting the special event coordinators will not allow me to apply for all the 1 x 1 callsigns as they did in the past.

It would be nice to get a showing of hands of the members that are interested. Just drop me an email w1ctn@nullyahoo.com in the next couple of days and then I will post the website to go to to request your callsign.

I did a random check of a few callsigns K1A, N1A etc for the period we want and no one as of today has requested any callsigns so we are free to choose.

More to come.
